The role Bury Complex Safeguarding Team are looking to recruit to the post of Complex Safeguarding Social Worker with a focus on ensuring that young people at risk of Child Exploitation receive support, information, and services to meet their needs and safety. The Complex Safeguarding Team is a busy team co-located with partner agencies and based at Bury Police Station. The team thrives on challenge with good team, manager, and peer support. About you You will be completing direct work with young people, mainly on an individual basis, but in groups if required, to enhance their skills, knowledge, and self-confidence to develop ways to exit exploitative situations and relationships or minimise the risk to their safety. You will be required to deliver this work in a range of settings, exercising tenacious practice and the work will incorporate different activities based on the needs of the young person. The interventions that you deliver will be young person led and a key focus of your work will be on building positive relationships and identifying the strengths of the young people to support them to reach their potential. You will be highly skilled at assessing and responding to risk, particularly contextual risks, and at formulating safety plans with young people aimed at minimising these risks. The post is suitable for those with experience in complex safeguarding and looking to further their knowledge through this position. The post of CST social worker requires a focus on tenacious, child-centred practice aligned to strengths based, relational models of practice. You will have the confidence to work in partnership with other agencies and challenge professionally where required, and work with the colleagues across complex safeguarding teams in Greater Manchester to ensure effective cross boarder networking and mapping where required. Collaborative practice with social care colleagues is a key attribute to this role. There is an expectation that training around child exploitation, trafficking and modern slavery will be facilitated as part of the role. There is also a requirement to support children who go missing in the borough alongside the missing from home family support workers when required. Experience of working within the frameworks of the National Referral Mechanism and peer network mapping are also useful attributes to the role. About the team The multi-agency complex safeguarding team is based within Bury Police Station, therefore requires enhanced Police Vetting to access the premises. The team consists of one team manager, one assistant team manager (allocated a small, complex caseload), three social workers and two-family support workers who complete missing from home return interviews. There is also a nurse seconded to the team from the Northern Care Alliance and a trusted relationships psychotherapist from the Greater Manchester resilience hub. The team works alongside one detective sergeant for child exploitation who has a team of detectives and police constables who undertake criminal investigations. The team also work alongside the Police Challenger Team, the organised crime team, who are also based within the same office to support effective multi-agency working and information sharing. We are one of the first Authorities in the North-west to be pioneering the Hertfordshire Family Safeguarding model of working with families and training will be provided to learn new skills such as motivational interviewing.
