Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone with experience and an understanding of the healthcare environment; supporting patients and being customer-focused is essential. You will help provide a professional security service, tailored to meet the needs of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and will protect, advise, investigate, and act within a legal framework to maintain a safe and crime-free environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
As well as responding to incidents of disorder, clinically related challenging behaviour such as confusion, delirium, dementia, etc., are some of the situations you may be required to support. Each case will challenge you to adapt your approach and ensure that the best possible support is provided to our patients. All will require prompt and appropriate action in a courteous and helpful manner.
The Trust is looking for a 'can do' person who has excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience of working closely within a team to support patients, visitors, and staff in the healthcare sector, with a constant focus on improving the patient experience.
Job responsibilities
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
1. Act as the Trust Security Professional/Local Security Management Specialist (LSMS).
2. Responsibility for an annual revenue budget of circa £1.2 million within delegated financial limits and in accordance with the Trust's Standing Financial Instructions.
3. Authorize payments to contractors and suppliers using the Trust processes within approved budgets.
4. Check and process monthly contractor invoices, agreeing allowances in the funding for extra guarding as required.
5. Advise and draft new security-related strategies, policies, and procedures/SOPs.
6. Ensure policies are well known, championing roll-out and provide induction training.
7. Support development of E-learning modules.
8. Provide line management for the Deputy Security Manager, including undertaking regular performance reviews with key in-house and contracted provider arrangements.
9. Review KPIs, identify training needs, and ensure that inductions and Trust mandatory training courses are completed.
10. Ensure that any performance issues are dealt with in an appropriate and timely manner, and that appraisals are undertaken on an annual basis with periodic reviews throughout the year as appropriate.
Person Specification
* Educated to Degree Level in Risk and Security Management, NVQ 5, Police service or equivalent experience.
* To attain membership and/or accreditation to any relevant security healthcare or Health & Safety institutes, e.g., NAHS, IHEEM, HEFMA, etc., within the first year.
* NHS LSMS.
* Local Security Management Specialist, including the ability to analyze and action serious threats from Counter Terrorism.
* Specialist knowledge in security management and understanding of Estates Terminology.
* Experience and knowledge of working within a Safeguarding and Clinical environment.
* Knowledge of the Secretary of State Directions on security management and the protection of NHS staff from violence and abuse and the related supporting documentation.
* Proven experience in managing people and budgets.
* Expert knowledge and significant experience of security, criminal and civil related law enforcement, especially relating to the protection of people and property.
* Expert knowledge in CCTV and BWV management, review, and further development.
* Experience of health and safety legislation in relation to protecting staff from violence and abuse.
* In-depth knowledge of current social, political environment, and government security threat status.

Salary: £53,755 to £60,504 a year, per annum pro rata.
