Bodyshop Manager

Specific tasks:
This job holder must be able to:
1. Identify work providers and networks with insurance assessors to promote the department and seek opportunities for additional work
2. Negotiate contracts with work providers and parts and consumable suppliers to achieve overall profitability across contracts
3. Present contracts to managing directors for signature, query, amendment or decline
4. Provide courtesy cars where contractually required, supplying adequate vehicles of correct standard and maintenance level
5. Provide estimates in the agreed format to work providers for potential work to be completed
6. Complete varied benchmarking and yardstick information and general administrative tasks to meet work provider requirements
7. Source and negotiate with external overflow suppliers to ensure all work can be completed within the agreed time and to the correct quality and standard
8. Develop a good relationship with all manufacturers and work providers
Financial:
1. Monitor quality control statistics produced by the quality controller, taking remedial action where necessary to reduce or eliminate returns
2. Communicate and gain authority during the estimating or repair process to ensure coverage of all necessary repairs
3. Maintain accurate costing and invoicing procedures to ensure that money is paid
4. Ensure that all clerical functions within the bodyshop are carried out in accordance with policies (warranty claim, workshop loading etc)
5. Ensure the maintenance of all equipment to the bodyshop department, regular calibration etc. ensuring all equipment is available for productive use
6. Formulate and communicate sales targets for the team members and provide sufficient guidance and direction to maintain agreed volume and profitability targets
Personnel and Customers:
1. Establish safety and security procedures to protect property and retail facility personnel and ensure that these are followed
2. Participate fully in measurement and feedback processes, to complete and return personnel documentation on time and to embrace personal training and development opportunities
3. Work to support other team members in the achievement of their objectives when asked to do so or required by their manager
4. Ensure that the department is adequately staffed to achieve the objectives
5. Recruit appropriate individuals for the department subject to the managing directors approval and budgetary limits
6. Provide induction training for new team members to familiarise them with work surroundings and role
7. Coach and develop the job related skills of the team members to support improvements in their performance
8. Direct team members in handling day to day problems and issues to enable them to operate efficiently and meet customers needs
9. Communicate vision and goals to staff and establishes work priorities to ensure that the most urgent tasks are handled first
10. Provide appropriate feedback and support (e.g. training, equipment) to team members to ensure their ability to perform the required tasks
11. Understand and comply with all appropriate legislation to the department including COSHH and health and safety
12. Complete any other appropriate bodyshop or management activities as specified by the managing director
Knowledge and skills required:
This job holder must have knowledge of:
1. Awareness of company network

6. Bodyshop systems and equipment (e.g. understanding of vehicle layout, parts, panels, ovens etc)

8. In-house computer systems (EMACS, Audatex, Glass evaluator, Outlook, ADP etc)
9. COSHH legislation, consumer legislation and trade practices
10. Use of appropriate tools and machinery
11. General office equipment (i.e. telephones systems, copiers, internet)
12. Awareness of new models and recent changes/improvements through technical and bodyshop updates, bulletins and on/offsite training
13. Awareness of vehicle repair industry, new developments of the bodyshop and insurers
14. Marketing techniques
15. Budgeting processes
16. Strategic management
And to have the ability to:
1. Maintain a high level of contact with internal and external customers, suppliers and insurers
2. Identify and resolve dissatisfied customers issues in a professional and empathetic manner
3. Work readily with numbers and provide/discuss statistical information
4. Build strong inter-departmental relationships and pay close attention to the requirements of those departments
5. Pay close attention to administrative details, ensuring documentation is clear and legible
6. Work independently and as a team in a busy and active environment without constant supervision, managing own time and workflow effectively
7. Present a consistently professional image to all customers through attitude, behaviour and personal appearance
8. Maintain up to date knowledge about new products, systems and services and insurer requirements
9. Deploy the appropriate management tools and strategies to build and retain a high performing team
10. Produce internal and manufacturer and insurer reports to update them on status
11. Remain positive in stressful situations

Pay: £46,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
