WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
To become a Learning Support Assistant in our Progressions department, we need someone who has excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, is adaptable and supportive.
The successful candidate will have the chance to acquire new skills and develop their abilities in a wide range of activities.
We have a variety of students from the surrounding area; we are a welcoming and inclusive community that champions diversity and equality across our college.
This position is centered cross campus; all applicants must be prepared to travel to our other campuses or surrounding areas as required.
This is a temporary position covering maternity leave and will end when your colleague returns to work or declares their intention not to return to work.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
* You will assist students in the classroom with understanding the activities set by the tutor, as well as supporting with spelling, punctuation, and mathematics.
* To support College attendance, retention and achievement strategies by providing a high-quality pro-active support service to learners who have special educational high needs support requirements.
* To ensure that all learners receiving support achieve as well as their peers and develop independent learning skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Level 2 (at least) qualification in both Maths and English, or a willingness to gain.
GENERAL SKILLS:
* Experience gained in support services, especially for young people (e.g. education, Social Services, mental health services, the NHS).
* Experience of working with young people and vulnerable adults.
* Experience in providing support in a classroom and one to one.
* First Aid Trained, or willingness to undertake the training and remain up to date.
* Fire Marshal duty trained or willingness to undertake the training and remain up to date.
SPECIFIC SPECIAL SKILLS:
* Ability to work within a team.
* Ability to provide amanuensis and reader support.
* Willingness to provide incidental personal care support where necessary.
* Previous knowledge and ability to support learners with Autistic spectrum conditions, Profound and multiple learning difficulties, Moderate/mild learning difficulties, Behavioural difficulties and Mental health difficulties.
