Overview
We are seeking Dual Diagnosis Family and Carer Support Volunteers.
Co-existing mental health and substance misuse conditions can have a huge impact on everyone, especially the family, friends, and loved ones of those misusing drink/drugs. Loved ones can be left feeling angry, hurt, isolated, stigmatised, and ashamed.
It can be overwhelming for those affected by someone’s co-existing mental health and substance misuse conditions to take the first step and ask for help. As a family and carer volunteer, you will be using your own experiences of living with/supporting someone with these conditions to promote hope and support to others. You will provide them with a safe, non-judgmental, friendly space where they can express their anxieties and share their experiences.
Responsibilities
You will be working closely with the recovery workers to identify those carers who may benefit from additional support.
You will take the lead on creating a support group, encouraging members to get involved and have a say in how the group can meet their needs.
You will be a positive role model to the group, motivating and encouraging them to gain resilience to support themselves and their families.
You will be provided with all the skills, training, and support you will need to undertake the role.
We will support you in this volunteering role by ensuring that you receive regular supervision, Reflective Practice/Clinical Supervision, and have a team member on-site who you can approach for day-to-day advice and guidance.
