We are seeking an experienced Linesman to Join the OCU Nettworx Team based in Huntly. The Linesman plays a critical role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical lines. They are responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of power distribution networks by performing a variety of tasks, including line construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency response. The role requires technical skills, physical strength, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Responsibilities
* Install, repair, and maintain overhead and underground electrical or telecommunication lines, poles, and related equipment, following engineering specifications, safety regulations, and industry standards.
* Assist with the construction and maintenance of power distribution networks, including installing transformers, insulators, conductors, and switches, and ensuring proper grounding and insulation to prevent electrical hazards.
* Operate a variety of equipment and tools, such as bucket trucks, diggers, cable pullers, and hand tools, to perform line work safely and efficiently, and conduct routine inspections and maintenance to ensure equipment readiness.
* Adhere to health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures at all times, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices to prevent accidents or injuries.
* Respond to emergencies, such as power outages, equipment failures, or storm damage, to restore service and ensure continuity of electrical operations, often working in adverse weather conditions or hazardous environments.
* Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults, failures, or malfunctions, and perform necessary repairs or adjustments to restore service and prevent service interruptions.
* Maintain accurate records of work performed, including work orders, time sheets, material usage, and equipment maintenance logs, and report completed tasks, issues, and recommendations to supervisors or managers.
Skills & Responsibilities
* Relevant vocational qualifications or apprenticeship in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or a related field.
* Previous experience working as a Linesman or in a similar role in the electrical or telecommunications industry.
* Knowledge of electrical or telecommunication systems, equipment, materials, and techniques used in line construction, maintenance, and repair.
* Valid UK driving license with the appropriate endorsements for operating commercial vehicles and equipment.
* Strong technical skills, including the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
* Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual tasks, work at heights, and lift heavy objects safely.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently.
