JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for supporting the defence, management, coordination and processing of consumer legal challenges against easyJet as a result of operational disruption.
The paralegal will ensure that consumer claims for delays/ cancellations are immediately assessed to determine those cases which should or should not be legally challenged.
The paralegal will be responsible for ensuring easyJet databases, systems and reports are accurately updated and key data disseminated across the business.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Process legal claims received by easyJet from legal representatives or customers claiming compensation and requesting refunds for delays and cancellations, based upon easyJet’s Terms and Conditions, EU 261 legislation and the Montreal Convention.
2. Manage a caseload of litigated claims from initial inception to settlement / final hearing, including compliance with court timescales, liaisons with third party legal representatives, drafting defences, witness statements and trial preparation.
3. Access and interrogate aviation operational systems to find and provide information which might be required to support the defence of court cases and or support out of court settlements.
4. Liaise with easyJet’s internal and external legal representatives across different jurisdictions to ensure co-ordination of cases and settlements / judgments.
5. Collaborate with easyJet’s operations team to secure and preserve evidence of on-the-day disruption management decisions and provide guidance on strategies to mitigate compensable disruption events.
6. Support the Disputes Team and advise customer service on EU 261 legislation and other consumer law enquiries from national regulatory and enforcement bodies.
7. Maintain databases and systems to ensure consistency and accuracy of information relating to disruptions of flights.
8. Ensure the timely payment of claims and accurate recording of payment data.
9. Maintain the precedent and evidence database for the Disputes Team.
10. Attend business disruption team meetings to provide advice in times of mass disruption and predicted disruption events.
KEY SKILLS REQUIRED
A legal background or a career paralegal with experience in Nordic or Iberian jurisdictions, who wishes to pursue a career in law and with an interest in civil litigation.
Fluency in English plus Spanish/Portuguese or Nordic languages. Additional European languages highly regarded.
Strong relationship building skills with the ability to influence and negotiate.
Ability to efficiently deal with large volumes of work.
Numerate/ comfortable working with data.
Experience in the use of Microsoft Office, including Excel & PowerPoint.

Location & Hours of Works
This full-time role will be based in Luton and will be 40 hours per week. Hybrid working with 3 days in the office.
