An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our dynamic Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy within the North Norfolk area. Our team provides timely assessment and treatment of MSK conditions to improve our patients' quality of life and maximize their independence.
East Coast Community Healthcare's (ECCH's) friendly and supportive MSK physiotherapy team has a wide skill mix ranging from post-graduate MSc/MACP to newly qualified staff and exercise professionals.
Our busy departments treat a wide variety of patients referred from GPs, Consultants, other health care professionals, and via our patient self-referral portal.
The MSK Service also includes our MSK Assessment and Triage team and our MSK Foot and Ankle (Biomechanics) team, who are also happy to support specialist skill development. Main duties of the job
A variety of assessment and treatment techniques including face-to-face, telephone, video, web triage, and classes are utilized.
A structured training programme is provided by our MSK Service, which includes regular in-service training with external speakers from local acute hospitals, clinical supervision within small groups, and departmental peer review. Our team offers learning opportunities with Musculoskeletal Assessment and Triage (MATS) and Foot and Ankle services.
Job responsibilities
Clinical
1. To be responsible for a defined caseload working without direct supervision. Clinical support is provided through clinical/professional supervision that takes the form of direct observation of practice or formal training/clinical reasoning sessions.
2. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care.
3. To be responsible for equipment used in carrying out physiotherapy duties, and to adhere to departmental equipment policy, including competence to use equipment and to ensure the safe use of equipment by others through teaching, training, and supervision of practice.
4. To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and to organize this efficiently and effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and support more junior staff to do the same.
5. To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation, using investigative and analytical skills.
6. To formulate an individualised physiotherapy management and/or treatment plan, using clinical reasoning skills and utilizing a wide range of treatment skills e.g., manual physiotherapy techniques, patient education, electrotherapy, exercise classes, and alternative options in order to formulate a specialized programme of care.
7. To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching, and instruction to relatives, carers, and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
8. To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximize rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of conditions.
9. To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent, and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
PROFESSIONAL
1. To maintain own clinical professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments and incorporate them as necessary into your work.
2. Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation in line with legal and departmental requirements and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines in the form of reports and letters.
3. To communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and therapy colleagues to ensure delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary service.
4. Training, supervision, and performance management of junior staff, technical instructors, assistants, and students, with assistance from more senior members of the physiotherapy team.
5. Participate in the staff appraisal scheme and Personal Development Programme (PDP).
6. Undertake the measurement and evaluation of your work and current practices through the use of Evidence Based Practice projects, audit, and outcome measures.
7. Demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and apply to work situation.
ORGANISATIONAL:
1. To deputise for the Band 7 in terms of operational issues.
2. Be actively involved in the collection of appropriate data and statistics for the use of the department.
3. Be aware of the Health and Safety aspects of your work and implement any policies which may be required to improve the safety of your work area.
4. To comply with the organizational and departmental policies and procedures and to be involved in the reviewing and updating as appropriate.
5. Any other duties which might be considered appropriate by senior colleagues.
