PRINCIPLE DUTIES OF THE POST To provide and develop with Consultant colleagues, a comprehensive Histopathology / Cytopathology / Andrology / post mortem examination service for the Trust and to collaborate with colleagues in all disciplines including primary and tertiary care, where appropriate, to achieve an integrated service for patients. To develop such special skills and interests appropriate to the agreed overall development of the department. To provide specialist advice and skills training to colleagues from other disciplines as required for the optimum delivery of patient care. To develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialities and participate in multidisciplinary meetings and other postgraduate meetings. To take joint responsibility for the professional supervision and development of training posts in the department. To demonstrate a firm involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit this will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice. To take part in medical audit and research as appropriate. To participate in the management of service within Cellular Pathology and where appropriate within BCPS. To develop and maintain good communications with General Medical (and Dental) Practitioners and appropriate outside agencies. To ensure own practice is up to date; this will include taking responsibility for own continued professional development and participating in the Trusts Performance Review. To participate in relevant Regional and National EQA Schemes. To participate in annual appraisals and Job Plan review. As a team member with the present Consultants to operate a system of cover for annual, study and professional leave. To deputise for absent colleagues, as far as is practicable. To maintain professional standards and obligations as set out by the General Medical Council.
