An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the John Radcliffe Endoscopy and become part of an evolving and innovative team.
Whether you are an existing Band 5 who wishes to have a career change and want to work in a more specialist area of nursing and have further career development, or if you are a Student Nurse who is due to qualify in the next couple of months, we can offer you a training program where you will be fully supported by our Clinical Education Team and other senior staff during a 2 month supernumerary period, so you can reach your level of competence to work independently as an Endoscopy Nurse in diagnostics. There are also opportunities for development in therapeutic procedures.
The JR Endoscopy unit has 6 procedure rooms and prides itself on pioneering new ideas, being a Centre for Excellence in diagnostic and cutting-edge therapeutic endoscopy, with ongoing research, development and education.

Main Duties of the Job
* Provide and maintain high standards of nursing care within the Endoscopy Department.
* Assess, monitor and support patients undergoing endoscopy.
* Assist the Endoscopist in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
* Communicate effectively with patients to prepare them for procedures and provide accurate information regarding diagnosis and aftercare.
Job Responsibilities
1. Give and receive patient-centred hand-overs, ensuring accurate information is communicated.
2. Assess, develop and implement patient care plans, ensuring accurate nursing records.
3. Assist and supervise other members of the nursing team as appropriate.
4. Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
5. Ensure good communication exists between all healthcare professionals.
6. Undertake pre, peri and post endoscopy care for patients, including those who have sedation.
7. Ensure safe recovery post procedure, monitoring for complications.
8. Respond calmly to emergency situations, maintaining patient safety.
9. Administer drugs in accordance with trust policy and ensure the safe custody of all drugs.
10. Demonstrate technical competence in assisting with endoscopic procedures.
11. Take biopsies and correctly label and dispatch specimens.
12. Adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct and data protection act.
13. Demonstrate organisational skills in order to take regular charge of the endoscopy procedure room.
14. Report untoward incidents as required.
15. Participate in department meetings to enhance team communication.
16. Maintain awareness of health and safety regulations.
Person Specification
* Registered Nurse (part 1, 8, 12 or 15 of register depending on area of practice).
* Educated to diploma/degree level.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
* Knowledge of NMC guidelines and changing policies within the NHS.
Terms and Conditions of Employment
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service will be necessary to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 a year pro rata.
