The Role We are looking for an internal auditor to lead a small and dedicated team responsible for providing an effective, efficient and well-regarded internal audit service to the University of Essex and the University of Suffolk under a cost sharing arrangement. While for routine operational purposes, the Director of Internal Audit reports to the Chief Financial Officer, the Internal Audit team is independent with a reporting line to the Chairs of the Audit and Risk Management Committees of Essex and Suffolk. The Committees, independently, approves prioritisation and allocation of the work of Internal Audit. Duties of the Director include planning, coordinating and overseeing the work of the team, reporting to the Committees and carrying out a range of audits in line with agreed procedures and applicable professional standards to specified deadlines. This involves identifying and agreeing cost effective and practical solutions to address any control weaknesses, and researching and interpreting the implications of professional and sector developments on internal audit. About you (Skills and qualifications required) You will need to be a fully qualified internal auditor or CCAB qualified accountant with evidence of continuing professional development. Proven practical experience of internal auditing is essential as is the capacity to work autonomously and on your own initiative to meet deadlines and objectives. You will need excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to negotiate with and influence others. You will be able to operate confidently in a complex and changing environment with the ability to analyse, interpret and clearly communicate complex issues to academic and professional colleagues.
