GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator or Designee, the Research Associate performs a variety of complex research experiments.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conducts in-depth analysis of research experiments
2. Performs complex laboratory experiments
3. Interprets data, forms conclusions, and decides on and plans next experiments to be done with a high degree of independence
4. Compiles and analyzes data and performs computations using image analysis software, spreadsheets, graphing, and curve fitting software
5. May modify protocols and be responsible for a single, independent research project
6. Assists in writing the text of scientific publications and grants. Reviews literature
7. Trains new laboratory personnel, students, and collaborators
8. Maintains laboratory supplies and equipment
9. Complies with all safety and infection control standards
10. Performs other duties as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, or equivalent experience
2. 1 year relevant research experience
3. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
4. Strong ability to analyze complex visual data in a quantitative and objective manner
5. Judgment and action skills required to solve commonly encountered problems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree in cognitive science or neuro-science
2. Minimum of 1 year of experiential knowledge of mindfulness and meditation through a daily practice
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator or designee
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May functionally supervise Lab Technicians and Aides
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Wet chemistry laboratory, and may require appropriate contact with biohazards, radionuclides, toxins, animals, and human specimens.
