Temporary PT Library Services Assistant/Admin

Pay Rate: £15.06 per hour PAYE
Hours per week: 21 specific days and hours TBC
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 1-2 months, likely to be extended
City: Wembley, London
The purpose of the role is to provide friendly, helpful and inclusive library services to customers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assisting customers in person, via email and on the telephone, providing an efficient and friendly service, referring customers to other staff or other sources of information as appropriate.
2. Effectively promoting the library services and encouraging use.
3. Ensuring effective issue and return of library stock and, where possible, assisting customers in the use of self-service machines.
4. Daily cash handling, including the use of tills.
5. Assisting new customers in joining the library.
6. Undertaking stock work including processing new books, collection management reports, shelf tidying and displays.
7. Maintaining the appearance of the library and reporting faults in line with Council policy and health and safety regulations, supporting facilities management to open and close libraries where necessary.
8. Assisting in the planning, promotion and delivery of library events, including storytelling, children’s activities and other reading promotional initiatives.
9. Using and promoting ICT services, supporting and advising customers as needed.
10. Assisting the Customer Services Officer in the daily recording of performance information and ensuring this is timely and accurate.
11. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and all employees are required to act in such a way that at all times safeguards the health and well-being of children and vulnerable adults.
Qualifications:
1. 5 GCSE’s C+ including English and Maths.
Skills & Experience:
1. Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
2. Experience of working in a multi-skilled team.
3. Experience of working in a front-line customer service environment.
4. Experience of cash handling.
5. Ability to understand varied filing systems e.g. Alpha-numerical, and shelve books in order.
6. Ability to promote library services with the public verbally and through displays and promotional material.
7. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
