FIXED TERM TO COVER MATERNITY LEAVE FOR UP TO 12 MONTHS.
Working in the Tenancy Sustainment Team, you will work in partnership with welfare rights services, including Hull Advice and Hull and East Riding CAB to deliver excellent services to council tenants.
You will be responsible for managing a caseload and offer ongoing advice and assistance as part of a support plan to customers who are assessed as needing intervention in order to sustain their tenancy. You will also be responsible for supporting Council tenants who have moved or are moving across to claim Universal Credit.
Due to the current needs of the role and the service, you are required to be flexible and be willing to work across various locations across the city. There may also be a requirement to co-locate with other services and agencies in the future. Overall, you will contribute to the provision of a proactive housing, debt and welfare rights service and promote access to specialist advice to council tenants in Hull who are at risk of tenancy failure. Your role will be to support area housing team staff to work effectively with customers to minimise the likelihood of eviction or abandonment of the property.
This will include providing support to people in their own homes with a range of issues that impact on the financial sustainability of a tenancy; to include, but not limited to, budgeting work; maximising income; reducing expenditure; signposting to debt advice and welfare rights services; welfare benefits advice and practical support with making claims; support to access training and work opportunities.
In addition, taking the lead where appropriate in working with tenants whose complex needs present health and safety risks (for instance, hoarding behaviour, refusing access for gas servicing).
You may be required to attend case conferences, Best Interest Meetings and to use the provisions of the Mental Capacity Act to support customers with their housing linking in with our dedicated Mental Health worker when appropriate to do so.
It is essential that you have substantial knowledge of the range of services and benefits available to service users including Universal Credit knowledge and the associated referral processes, coupled with experience of providing debt management advice including income and expenditure assessments.
You will need to have an understanding of the causes of tenancy failure and the range of remedies available to prevent it., Disability Confident
