The Role
The Buying Assistant is responsible for supporting the buyers and Head of Buying with the purchasing and management of the raw material, packaging and ingredients required to make the products produced within the factory. The post holder must have a sound knowledge of the Company’s products and they will be required to work closely with the production, technical, warehouse and commercial teams to ensure that there are adequate supplies for the production plan and that they meet the required standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with the purchasing of raw material, packaging and ingredients in a manner which ensures there is an adequate amount to meet the demands of production whilst also ensuring there is not excessive excess material which would cause storage issues.
* Being aware of the lead times on raw material, packaging material and ingredients and placing orders in enough time to ensure their delivery for production.
* Keeping up to date and having a solid understanding of the marketplace i.e. market prices, fish quotas, and availability of raw material, ingredients, and packaging.
* Building strong relationships with current suppliers.
* Aiding with the negotiation of prices with current suppliers to ensure raw material, packaging and ingredients are being supplied at the best price.
* Ensuring when placing orders, the correct price is on the ERP system. If there are variances this must be raised immediately to the Head of Buying or Buyer.
* When required managing the paperwork and the deliveries of imports.
* Liaising with the commercial, production and technical teams to ensure raw material, packaging and ingredients meet the required standards.
* Control stock levels and play a key role in monthly and year end stock takes.
* Keeping accurate records, challenging any invoice discrepancies, etc.
* Completing any other duties as required in this role.

Experience
* Previous buying experience would be an advantage but is not essential.
* Previous experience of working within the food industry would be advantageous.
Hours of Work
* Hours of work will be from 8.00am to 5.00pm.
