Deputy Manager

We are looking for candidates who have proven skills and experience in a Residential Care Setting or equivalent setting and are passionate about improving the lives and outcomes for children and young people.

About the Role
As a Deputy Manager, you will:
1. Assist the Registered Manager in maintaining the smooth and effective running of the home.
2. Lead by example, managing and guiding the team to deliver exceptional care to children and young people.
3. Support children’s physical, psychological, and emotional development in a safe and nurturing environment.
4. Cover the Registered Manager’s role during absences, maintaining the home to a high standard.
5. Oversee staff rotas, training, supervision, performance management, and development.
6. Act as a mentor to staff, supporting their professional growth and confidence.
7. Manage behaviours that challenge and guide staff in effective strategies.
8. Monitor and maintain accurate records and reports, ensuring they meet statutory requirements.
9. Cover the out of hours on call £20 per night of cover and time off in lieu.
10. Ensure that you and the staff work in accordance with the Statement of Purpose and Function of the home, updating relevant Full Circle Living documents as directed by your manager.
11. Demonstrate effective leadership to direct and support the staff team to deliver person-centred childcare working towards the best outcomes for each young person.
12. Demonstrate a working knowledge, implement, adhere to and give guidance to other staff on all relevant legislation for Children’s Homes.
13. Demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, The Quality Care Standards and the SCCIF, under which each home is measured and judged against and promptly implement any recommendations or address requirements to improve the service after any Ofsted inspection.
14. Ensure that you and the staff team implement and adhere to Full Circle Living Safeguarding Policy, Working Together to Safeguard Children Guidance, and Local Authority Safeguarding procedures.
15. Work cohesively and in partnership with team members and other professionals.
16. Ensure Local Authority Social Workers are notified of all significant events, incidents, important changes, and physical interventions within 24 hours.
17. Ensure that young people receive a sensitive residential service which best meets their individual social, racial, psychological, educational, cultural, physical identity, and health care needs.
18. Undertake all administrative tasks necessary for the effective running of the home within Full Circle Living Policies and Procedures.
19. As directed by your Manager ensure that the home meets the Health and Safety Regulations.
20. Ensure all Quality Assurance and Regulation 44 Reports action points are addressed promptly.
21. Support the Manager in the performance and development of staff by conducting regular supervisions and annual appraisal processes.
22. Participate effectively in the on-call duty system.
23. Complete appropriate training within the required timeframes, ensuring that an up-to-date training record is maintained.
24. Undertake other duties as may be deemed appropriate from time to time.
Person Specification
Essential
1. Have at least 1 year’s experience working in a residential setting.
2. At least a year’s experience of line management of staff and supervisor responsibilities.
3. At least a year’s experience in a Team Leader role or Deputy Role demonstrating good leadership, in a flexible solution-focused manner.
4. Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with carers, children, families, and colleagues.
5. GCSE in Maths and English at Grade C or above.
6. Must be over 21 years.
Desirable
1. Level 5 Qualification in Leadership and Management in Children’s Services.
2. Attendance and partaking in Child focused meetings, such as Child In Care Reviews, Care Planning Meeting, and Strategy Meetings.
3. Experience of working with a variety of professionals and children and young people’s families.
4. Understanding and knowledge of Therapeutic approach to Childcare.
5. Hold a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care with Children and Young People.
6. Experience supporting children and young people with varying backgrounds, including those who have experienced trauma.
7. Knowledge of the mental health needs of children and adolescents.
8. Any relevant transferable skills, such as First Aid training.
9. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in line with GDPR and DPA Regulations.
10. A calm, approachable manner, with an ability to be adaptable and non-judgemental.

What is on Offer
1. Competitive salary of Scale: £16.00 - £25.00 per hour / £33,500 - £40,000 annually, plus paid sleep-ins where necessary. Progression within these pay scales is dependent on experience and qualifications.
