Job summary
This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join the Ophthalmology Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The department operates a Monday to Friday service from 8am to 6pm, comprising of Ophthalmology clinics led by Consultants and facilitated by the nursing team.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in the specialty and manage the day-to-day running of the department.
As Nurse in Charge, you will deputise for the Senior Sister in her absence and manage the day-to-day running of the department. This encompasses dealing with referrals to the department, facilitating the outpatient clinics, dealing with patient enquiries, and carrying out clinical work as required.
Ophthalmology training will be available and tailored to your learning and development needs.
The Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse will act as an inspirational role model to the nursing team and lead them with passion and enthusiasm.

The successful candidate will take on the role of Nurse in Charge, which will be shared with 5 other Band 6 nurses on a rotation basis.
The Sister/Charge Nurse will deputise for the Senior Sister in her absence, take control of the daily clinic services, manage patient referrals, and deal with patient enquiries.
Provide motivation and guidance to the nursing staff and lead by example.
The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and delegation skills to ensure the smooth running of the department.
As an experienced Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, there will be an expectation to take on additional management duties, manage and create rosters, handle sickness and absence, and conduct appraisals. Training will be provided as required.

Qualifications
*Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register
*Healthcare management/leadership qualification
*Ophthalmology trained/experience/interest in specialty
Experience
*Substantial post-registration experience working in a complex healthcare setting/acute NHS care setting supervising/mentoring junior staff
*Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in the area supplemented by specialist clinical and/or managerial training and CPD
*Can demonstrate understanding/experience/willingness to be a practice-based supervisor/assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
*Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
*Relevant and recent clinical experience within the specialty/acute care setting, including the supervision/education of junior staff
*Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
*Evidence of ability to lead/coordinate a shift/area of department
*Experience in learning from incidents/complaints and supporting changes in practice.
