Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Quality Assurance Technician on a 6 month contract, based in North East (Offshore) Role Summary The Offshore Substation Platform Inspector is responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of offshore substation construction, installation, and commissioning activities in a wind energy project. The inspector will oversee fabrication, welding, coatings, electrical, and mechanical installations while ensuring adherence to industry standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities: 1. Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ø Conduct inspections of offshore substation structures, including steel fabrication, welding, coatings, and mechanical/electrical components. Ø Verify compliance with project specifications, industry standards (ISO, IEC, DNV, etc.), and regulatory guidelines. Ø Ensure adherence to safety procedures, environmental policies, and offshore operational protocols. Ø Review and approve quality documentation, inspection test plans (ITPs), and material certificates. 2. Construction & Installation Monitoring: Ø Inspect offshore platform assembly, integration, and installation processes to ensure proper execution. Ø Witness site acceptance tests (SAT), and commissioning activities. Ø Monitor lifting, welding, and coating activities to prevent structural integrity issues. Ø Oversee electrical and mechanical system installations, ensuring correct cable routing, grounding, and system connections. 3. Non-Conformance Management & Reporting: Ø Identify and document non-conformances, defects, and deviations from specifications. Ø Coordinate with contractors and project teams to implement corrective actions. Ø Maintain detailed inspection records and prepare reports on quality status and progress. Ø Conduct audits and verify close-out of punch list items before commissioning. 4. Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance: Ø Enforce offshore safety protocols, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and permit-to-work (PTW) requirements. Ø Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with offshore health and safety regulations. Ø Report and address any safety concerns or incidents promptly. 5. Coordination & Communication: Ø Work closely with project engineers, quality managers, and contractors to resolve technical issues. Ø Participate in project meetings, quality reviews, and handover inspections. Ø Provide technical guidance to ensure high-quality execution of offshore substation works. Requirements - Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Marine Engineering, or a related field. - Minimum 5 years in offshore wind, oil & gas, or marine construction inspection. - Strong background in welding, coatings, mechanical, and electrical inspections for offshore structures. - Familiarity with offshore substation components, including transformers, switchgear, and HVAC systems. - BOSIET / GWO (Offshore Survival Training) is Mandatory - CompEx / ATEX Certification (Electrical installations in hazardous areas) -preferred, but not mandatory - Candidate shall demonstrate trained in electrical installation and inspection training and on-hands on inspection activity. - IRCA QMS ISO 9001 (Lead Auditor) – preferred but not mandatory, candidate shall demonstrate trained in quality management system. Skills: Ø Strong knowledge of ISO, DNV, IEC, and offshore wind industry standards. Ø Basic knowledge and training in welding. Ø Ability to interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and specifications. Ø Excellent reporting and documentation skills. Ø Strong communication and problem-solving abilities. Work Conditions - Offshore rotation schedule (21/21 days), 12hrs. shift at the platform - Offshore work environment with exposure to marine conditions. - Must have right to work in the UK and Europe.
