We are seeking an inspirational and dynamic English Lead to join a specialist Alternative Provision / PRU in Thurrock. This full-time, temporary-to-permanent role provides an exciting opportunity to take a leadership position in shaping English education for students who thrive in a non-mainstream setting.
As the English Lead, you will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering an engaging English curriculum, ensuring students are supported in achieving academic success and literacy confidence. You will lead by example, mentoring colleagues, refining teaching strategies, and ensuring high standards of education across the provision.
This role is ideal for an experienced English teacher ready to step into leadership or an existing subject lead looking for a new challenge in an alternative provision setting. While experience in a PRU or specialist setting is desirable, it is not essential, as training and professional development opportunities will be available.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the development and delivery of an engaging, inclusive, and inspiring English curriculum.
* Mentor and support colleagues to enhance teaching and learning standards across the provision.
* Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons, tailored to meet the individual needs of students.
* Work closely with the senior leadership team to implement school-wide literacy strategies.
* Monitor and assess student progress, implementing targeted interventions where necessary.
* Create a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that fosters learning, resilience, and confidence.
* Promote positive behaviour management strategies to engage and support students.
* Uphold safeguarding policies and promote the welfare of all students.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
* Strong knowledge of the English curriculum and effective literacy strategies.
* Experience in an Alternative Provision, PRU, or with students who require additional support is desirable but not essential.
* A passion for mentoring and leading a team to drive progress and success.
* Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
* A commitment to inclusive education and helping students achieve their full potential.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
