Job Responsibility:
The Mental Health Crisis Intervention Team (MHCIT) is a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals providing a 24 hour, 7 day per week service for individuals and their family/carers. The MHCIT works alongside the Mental Health Advise and Support Team (MHAST) which offers 24/7 access for mental health support.
We provide crisis interventions through telephone support, triage and assessments, plus intensive community-based treatment via the Home Treatment Team. The team focuses on immediate risk management and rapid stabilisation of a person's mental health and provides a short period of care to help manage the person's crisis.
We work with individuals and their family or carers to help resolve the individual's current mental health crisis and to assist with the process of recovery. The team works to provide people with safety, recovery and social inclusion with care based on trauma informed principles.
MHCIT forms an integral part of the Care Services that are integrated within Mental Health Acute Care, which includes the Mental Health Liaison Service and inpatient services. The MHCIT also has strong links and networks with Community Services, Police, ambulance service, Addiction services, GP surgeries and Social care services.
This integrated approach aims to ensure a comprehensive and seamless service to users and their carers during periods of mental health crisis.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Hold a professional Mental Health Nursing or Social work registration.
2. Work within the MHCIT demonstrating and applying an expert level of clinical practice, leadership and management, education and research.
3. Work in conjunction with the service manager and team leader and be accountable for the delivery of high-quality clinical services to patients.
4. Demonstrate critical thinking and analytical skills incorporating critical reflection in the clinical decision-making process.
5. Provide high-quality case management in relation to complex patients with a particular focus on the management of referrals into the home-based treatment team.
6. Support the development and clinical delivery of the MHCIT, working in partnership with the wider acute care pathway and community services.
7. Lead on and support the development of clinical policies, procedures and guidelines to support the delivery of safe and effective care and interventions.
8. Provide expert guidance relating to the provision of Mental Health services, including ensuring effective governance within the area of responsibility.
9. Work in partnership with local and regional agencies/partners to deliver the continuous improvement of Mental Health services.
10. Participate in the Humber on-call manager system.
11. Deputise for the Divisional Clinical Lead as appropriate.
