We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Design Engineer to join our team based in Hartlepool. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to begin their career within engineering.
The Design team at JDR Cables focuses on the design of umbilical/cable solutions that meet the specific requirements of our customers both in the Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy sectors.
As an Apprentice Design Engineer, you’ll play an integral part in supporting our design team. You’ll be involved in various aspects of the design process, from creating 3D designs and 2D manufacturing drawings to producing technical reports and specifications. This role offers the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge through nationally recognized engineering qualifications, all whilst contributing to real-time engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities:
* Gain hands-on experience in 3D design and 2D manufacturing drawings
* Learn to design electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics
* Develop your understanding of structural calculations and FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
* Contribute to technical report writing and documentation
* Understand and apply industry standards and regulatory requirements
* Work on automation principles and cutting-edge technology in the industry
You will be supported in your learning through college courses and on-the-job training to develop your technical expertise over time.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Producing and amending technical drawings and reports based on client specifications
* Writing internal umbilical/cable production and termination design specifications
* Operating CAD packages and design software
* Providing technical support to sales, purchasing, and production teams
* Preparing reports and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders
* Support ‘Root Cause’ investigations using problem-solving tools
* Collaborating with and supporting experienced Design Engineers on exciting projects

To be considered for these opportunities, you must have 4 GCSE grades at level 4 or above including English and Maths and be computer literate. You should have a keen interest in our growing industry and be motivated to achieve results to a level above and beyond what is expected. Hours of work will be 37.5 hrs per week, Monday to Friday.
