Rotational Senior Occupational Therapist in Stroke and Neurology

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Occupational Therapist to rotate between our Stroke and Neurology Teams, who is passionate about delivering high quality, patient centred care.
Main duties of the job
* Assist Therapy Team Leaders and Band 7 Therapy Team in the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Therapy service provided to patients within stroke service on a day-to-day basis.
* Manage a clinical caseload using evidence-based assessments, treatment and discharge planning to patients within the clinical speciality.
* Work as part of an MDT and provide highly specialised therapy advice to members of the MDT.
* Deputise for the Band 7 Occupational Therapist on clinical and managerial duties within the team.
* Participate in 7-day services.

Our Therapy service is a dynamic and exciting team that works across our three main sites: the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, and Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury, as well as supporting patients across our satellite sites. We form part of close MDT working on all the wards, and the therapy team are key team members in the rehabilitation of patients and discharge planning.

Job responsibilities

Kent and Canterbury Hospital is looking for an Occupational Therapist to join the Stroke and Neurology service. East Kent Hospitals is one of the biggest trusts in the country. The Stroke service at Kent and Canterbury provides a great breadth of knowledge and skills across the acute and rehab pathways and strives to provide an exceptional standard of care, as evident in the National SSNAP audit programme, which rates the service as an A.

Person Specification
Experience
* Minimum of 18 months post-graduate experience in relevant clinical area
* Proven record of providing high quality intervention for high-risk patients
* Experience of working with stroke/neurologically impaired patients as a Band 5
* Experience of working in an acute hospital environment
* Use of outcome measures
* Experience in supporting students
Skills and Abilities
* Evidence of developed clinical skills in stroke
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Up to date therapeutic moving and handling skills
* Complex/multifactorial discharge planning including home assessment and environmental set up
* Use of standardised cognitive assessments
* Basic IT skills
Knowledge
* Awareness of professional issues and recent developments in the NHS and Primary Care including Clinical Governance, NICE and CQC
* Knowledge of up-to-date clinical/evidenced based practice within clinical speciality
* Awareness of National Clinical Stroke Guidelines 2023
Qualifications
* BSc Occupational Therapist
* HCPC registration
* Member of RCOT
* Member of relevant special interest group.
