Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated professional to develop and deliver a high-quality performance and creative arts programme for young people in Chorley, aged 7–19 years (up to 25 for those with additional needs).
In this role, you will design and implement a comprehensive performing arts curriculum while providing direct line management, coaching, and development for sessional youth workers and volunteers. Your leadership will ensure that young people benefit from an engaging, inclusive, and high-standard programme.
As the Programme Lead, you will oversee Inspire’s Performing Arts Programme, optimizing the use of our state-of-the-art performing arts studio and music room. You will also take the lead on organizing performing arts events and delivering targeted, funded projects to enhance the programme's reach and impact.
This role integrates performing arts into the broader youth work framework, supporting and inspiring young people to express themselves, develop new skills, and achieve personal growth. Responsibilities include programme planning, delivery, and collaboration with the wider team to ensure success.
Programme Development and Delivery
* To lead plan, coordinate and deliver a comprehensive performing arts programme for young people aged 7 to 19 ensuring a diverse range of engaging, creative, and age-appropriate activities.
* To ensure the performing arts programme is of high quality and meets the needs of the young people, including young people with additional needs and disabilities and young people who typically don’t engage in performing arts.
* To deliver performing arts sessions, 3.5 evenings per week (includes 1 weekend shift) delivering a safe programme of youth work that meets the needs of the current young people attending.
* To recruit, train, manage, develop, co-ordinate and maintain dance and music sessional staff and volunteers to deliver high quality and safe activities.
* Ensure that the performing arts programme is varied in nature, making full use of the Youth Zone’s facilities and the diverse skill set of the staff team.
* To work with the DSL in safeguarding children and young people.
* To monitor, record and evaluate the performing arts programme and provide reports and information as required to ensure a consistently high-quality youth work provision and demonstrate the impact of the Youth Zone
* To ensure all funded programmes are managed and reported on to a high standard and timescales are met
* To ensure that the performing arts programme contributes to the wider youth work agenda, supporting the development of young people
* To organise special performance and creative arts events such as showcases, performances, challenges and projects on a regular basis.
* To network with local appropriate providers and other partner organisations to develop joint working programmes and events such as hosting Chorley live.
* To give support across the whole Youth Zone offer (as required) which takes place every evening, weekend and during school holidays, as well as occasional residential opportunities

* To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Senior Leadership Team.
Programme Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
* To manage, deliver and report on funded performing arts projects.
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Performing arts programme, collecting data on participation, engagement, and outcomes.
* Develop and implement feedback mechanisms to gather input from young people, staff, and partners to improve the quality of services.
* Produce regular reports on the performing arts programme’s performance, including data on participation, feedback from young people, and impact on personal and social development.
* Ensure accurate and up-to-date record-keeping, including attendance registers
* Report regularly to senior management, providing updates on the progress of the performing arts programme and identifying areas for improvement.
* To manage and monitor the budget allocated to the performing arts programme effectively and efficiently
Staff and Volunteer Management
* Lead and manage a team of performing arts staff utilising their individual skills, ensuring they have clear objectives and are supported in their roles.
* Recruit, train, and mentor staff and volunteers, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to deliver high-quality services.
* Provide regular supervision and support to staff, ensuring they feel empowered, motivated, and aligned with the organisation's values.
* Foster a collaborative, positive team culture, encouraging open communication, teamwork, and continuous learning within the performing arts team.
* Ensure the professional development of staff, identifying training opportunities and facilitating ongoing learning to improve service delivery.
Qualifications:
* A recognised qualification in performance, music or youth work
* A qualification in Leadership or Management
* Proven experience in managing teams of youth workers and volunteers, including recruitment, supervision, and development.
* GCSE or equivalent literacy and numeracy
* Extensive experience working in Youth work settings
* A valid First Aid at Work certificate or willingness to obtain this certification
Skills
* Ability to plan and lead on performance and creative arts events, such as dance performances, showcases, and community events.
* Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to lead a diverse team of staff and volunteers.
* Experience in leading youth and play work sessions that engage and inspire children, while promoting personal development through performing arts.
* Ability to plan and manage play programmes effectively, ensuring that sessions are well-organised and meet the needs of all children.
* Ability to self-motivate and work to set deadlines to meet project targets
* Ability to work on own initiative and make decisions under pressure.
* Comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, parents, staff, and external stakeholders.
* Ability to present reports, updates, and feedback to senior management and other stakeholders.
* Strong ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.
* Experience in supervising and mentoring staff and volunteers, promoting their professional development.
