Job Description:
Visitor Assistant Roles - National Science and Media Museum
Are you good with people and eager to learn new skills? Are you interested in joining our new visitor-facing teams at one of Bradford's key visitor attractions?
About us
The National Science and Media Museum (NSMM) has now re-opened as Bradford becomes UK City of Culture 2025, and follows a once-in-a-generation transformation with huge changes through a £6 million capital project called 'Sound and Vision', including two new permanent galleries (due to open in the Summer), a new passenger lift and improvements to the main entrance, thanks to support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
We are excited to continue recruiting into a number of roles which make up our visitor facing teams, to support the reopening of the museum, and new gallery spaces.
The Museum's visitor facing teams are responsible for the safety, security and standard of visitor experience at the museum on a day-to-day basis. Our exhibition spaces host a wide variety of experiences, from interactive family fun to cutting-edge science, using amazing objects and precious items from the Science Museum Group's own collection and from around the world to tell authentic stories.
About the roles
We are looking for a number of part-time/casual Visitor Assistants to support the reopening of the museum and new gallery spaces, working in the following teams:
1. Visitor Experience Team
2. Working across all front of house departments, as and when, on a Casual contract
As a Visitor Assistant, you will ensure that a friendly welcome is given to each and every visitor as they enter the museum. You will provide a high quality of customer service to our diverse audiences, using a variety of communication styles to engage visitors and facilitate their visit as well as working to safeguard our visitors and our collection at all times.
Contracted hours: We have a number of contracted part-time hours available across the different roles, these will vary between 4 hours per week up to 16 hours pw, up to 12 months FTC.
Shift times will be broadly 9.45am to 5.15pm, with shorter shifts being offered as AM/PM shifts on a rota basis. We can also offer weekend shifts.
About you
You will have a positive, solutions-focused approach, with flexibility around work patterns and tasks undertaken. You will be keen to learn and develop new skills and will bring good general IT skills (you can expect to learn how to use a till or ticketing system). Ultimately, this is a role where you'll be working with and meeting new people every day, so you will be able to speak to people, find common ground, build good relationships and make everyone feel welcome.
Applying
You will have an opportunity to express an interest in all, or some of the Visitor Assistant roles. You can state your preference during the application process. View the Supporting Statement questions listed under 'Attachments' on the vacancy listing on our website for more details about the application process, or click 'Apply Online' to submit an application.
