Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified Phlebotomist to join our medical team in the GP surgery Saturday morning clinic. The successful candidate will be responsible for drawing blood samples from patients for various medical purposes and ensuring accurate labelling and documentation. The surgery is open alternate Saturday mornings. There will always be a GP on site during your clinic and there will usually be a nurse clinic on plus a receptionist.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform venipuncture and skin punctures to collect blood specimens
2. Properly label and record blood samples for processing
3. Ensure patient comfort and safety during the blood collection process
4. Maintain a clean and organised work area
5. Utilise aseptic techniques to prevent contamination of blood samples
6. Handle specimens appropriately for laboratory testing
7. Provide basic life support if required during blood collection procedures
Qualifications:
1. Proficient in phlebotomy techniques including venipuncture and skin punctures
2. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to facilitate blood collection procedures
3. Familiarity with medical terminology related to phlebotomy practices
Requirements:
1. Certification in phlebotomy or relevant field
2. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients
3. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen handling and labelling
4. Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy
Hours: Alternate Saturdays or every 4th Saturday from 8am - 12 noon. The blood samples will be collected at 11.45.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: £11.50-£16.50 per hour
Expected hours: 1 – 4 per week
