To project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous, and efficient way. To deliver a safe and viable dispensary service, prepare and dispense prescriptions and miscellaneous over-the-counter medicines or appliances, and assist with stock control, ordering, and re-stocking of the dispensary. Provide effective advice to patients relating to medications, lifestyle, and ailments within the scope of your capability. Be able to work independently, following process and safe working practices.
Responsibilities include:
1. Dispensing, checking, and dispensing medications as per prescription.
2. Updating patients' repeat screens on doctors' instructions.
3. Dispensing and recording private prescriptions and collecting specified charges.
4. Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions.
5. Fully observing legal requirements relevant to dispensing practice, including HA regulations and controlled drugs.
6. Liaising with GP for medication reviews.
7. Supporting patients to deliver a managed repeat service, ensuring good communication and safe dispensing.
8. Issuing medication alternatives as necessary.
9. Keeping the dispensary updated with changes to medication alerts from bodies such as MHRA.
10. Conducting clinical audits as delegated by one of the practice pharmacists.
11. Providing assistance to the clinical team on medication-related projects.
Prescriptions:
1. Handing out prescriptions and collecting charges when appropriate.
2. Ensuring correct and up-to-date fees for prescription costs are displayed and accurate according to current legislation.
3. Advising on payment methods and alternatives.
4. Sorting, stamping, and endorsing prescriptions.
5. Generating prescriptions and labelling drugs correctly with patient details and medication details.
6. Ensuring prescriptions are securely stored ready for processing.
Stock Control and Governance:
1. Operation of efficient stock control to ensure continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage.
2. Planning and delivering a twice-yearly stock take.
3. Ordering processes ensuring costs are reviewed prior to ordering.
4. Maintaining a controlled drug log and ensuring correct storage and processes for drugs.
5. Ensuring all drugs are received and stored appropriately.
6. Removing out-of-date stock and destroying them appropriately.
Finance:
1. Responsible for ordering personally administered items across all sites.
2. Supporting the Dispensary Coordinator with managing personally administered items.
Facilities:
1. Ensuring the dispensary area remains clean and tidy.
2. Ensuring a safe and effective working environment.
3. Identifying risks in work activities and managing them appropriately.
