Job overview
This post provides an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and organised person to provide administrative and clerical support to the nursing staff within the Medical Day Unit and discharge lounge (St Josephs ward), Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The medical day unit is open Monday to Friday.
MDU has a number of different clinics running throughout the week. This post requires the ward clerk to be able to book and amend appointments on the MDU calendar, checking the referral emails box and ensuring patients are aware of their appointments. Booking transport for those who are unable to travel in for their appointments. Also, being able to organise notes for when patients have been discharged. Ensuring patients are admitted and discharged on Careflow.
Main duties of the job
To act as the focal point of administrative communications for the treatment area, taking all telephone enquiries, personal callers/visitors and directing patients where necessary.
To input the patient activity from the treatment area into the CRS system. The basic patient data set will include the admission, transfer and discharge details, as directed by the Nurse in charge.
To prepare documentation from admission to discharge for use by the nursing team.
Ensuring documentation is sent for scanning in a timely manner.
Is expected to maintain patient documentation in an organised and methodical manner according to Trust guidelines.
To print patient labels and wristbands as required.
To prepare blood request forms as required.
Ensure that there is an adequate supply of appropriate patient information leaflets for the ward area.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
* Educated to English GCSE or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
* Experience of computers and working in an office/reception environment.
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
* Excellent keyboard skills are required to ensure provision of an efficient and accurate service to patients and medical staff.
* Clear and concise verbal communication to ensure accuracy of information being required or transferred.
* Knowledge of Trust systems for the day-to-day administration eg Medway, Aria.
