Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH Specialist
Pay Rate: £90 per day
Location: Walsall
Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

The Role – SEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH Specialist)
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be working with primary-aged students (4 to 11 years old) who require additional support due to SEMH needs and challenging behaviour. You will be an integral part of the classroom, helping to create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH needs
Managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
Building strong, trusting relationships with students to help them engage in learning
Supporting students in developing social and emotional skills to boost confidence and self-regulation
Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to implement effective learning strategies
Encouraging positive interactions to foster a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere
What We’re Looking For:
Experience working with students with SEMH needs (in schools, alternative provisions, or similar settings)
Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
Training in de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA – desirable but not essential)
A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting children
A passion for making a difference in the lives of students with additional needs
