At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.
As the Head of Environment and Waste Operations, you will lead the strategic and operational management, ensuring services align with national and local priorities in a customer-focused and efficient manner. Acting as the Council’s lead advisor on waste and recycling, fleet management, parks, open spaces, and arboriculture and grounds maintenance, you will drive impactful change across these essential services.
Are you passionate about building a cleaner, more sustainable future? Do you bring extensive environment and waste management experience and a proven record of effective leadership? We are seeking a dynamic, innovative individual to lead Swindon Council’s Environment & Waste Operations, ensuring a cost-effective, compliant, and high-quality service delivery.
In this role, you will contribute to raising standards across our environmental and waste portfolio, improving service outcomes and supporting the Council’s efforts to better serve our communities.

Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, you will provide strong leadership and clear direction to your teams, fostering a culture of operational excellence. You will prioritise innovative approaches that enhance both service quality and the Council’s reputation, consistently placing residents at the core of service delivery.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).

So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.
