About The Role
Are you a Harbour Master with experience in marine construction activity? NASH Maritime, part of the APEM Group, is looking for a Harbour Master (Senior Consultant) to join their team and lead on the provision of Harbour Master services for the Sizewell C Harbour Authority, which is a complex multifaceted National Infrastructure Project, regulated by the Office for Nuclear Regulation as a Nuclear New Build power station.
You will act as Harbour Master in accordance with the Sizewell C (Nuclear Generating Station) Order 2022, having responsibility for ensuring compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC) and all other relevant legislation, as well as administering and reviewing harbour works applications in relation to navigation safety. You will ensure safe and efficient port marine operations and staff health and safety, alongside providing direct marine focus, subject matter expertise, and leadership to the Sizewell C project.
You will directly manage Harbour Authority marine teams as they are created and developed, as well as approving and making operational decisions on all navigational and safety-related issues, including undertaking silver level commander in any major emergency response, and coordinating and managing any harbour incidents and emergency situations (including performing ‘on call’ duties as Harbour Master).
The role will be based on-site at Sizewell C Offices in Leiston, Suffolk.
This role will initially be shaped around shadowing the existing NASH Maritime supplied Harbour Master provision and wider project teams, over time developing into the Harbour Master role following induction into the Sizewell C project. You will bring together the skills and capabilities of the wider team and deliver an integrated approach, building experience through mentoring junior members of staff, gaining insight into management. You will maintain good working relationships with stakeholders, leading liaison and marine emergency planning with all relevant government agencies, statutory bodies, and emergency services, in port stakeholder events/working groups, etc., alongside developing and maintaining close links with all local leisure user groups, including Yacht Clubs, RYA, SCRA, RNLI, etc.
You will have:
* Marine management or operational experience in a high-volume or complex marine construction port operational environment
* Experience of formal navigational risk assessment processes
* A developed understanding of relevant occupational health, marine safety, and environmental obligations and systems.
* Demonstrable track record of managing navigation safety for major construction projects
* Proven leadership and people management skills
* Solution-driven approach and proven marine management skills
* Strong MS Office / IT capability / comfortable with bespoke IT systems
* Competent written and oral communication skills
* UK Harbour Master’s Certificate (or willingness to work towards gaining this)
