Job summary We require an enthusiastic and motivated Ophthalmic Imager with previous experience to join our team of 9 imagers and Ophthalmic Technician. The Ophthalmology Unit in Leicester employs 26 Consultant Ophthalmologists. The imaging department sees a wide range of patients, including glaucoma, macular degeneration, cornea, and neuro-ophthalmology and receives referrals from other specialties including, rheumatology and neurology. Virtual clinics are held with senior imagers and ophthalmologists working closely together to manage new and follow-up patients. Main duties of the job The department also provides a service in the peripheral community hospitals in both Leicestershire and Rutland. As well as macular degeneration clinics the imagers work in conjunction with the ophthalmologists in general ophthalmology clinics. University Hospitals of Leicester is a clinical placement centre for undergraduates and regularly accommodate students on placement. Clinical teaching for medical students and pre-registration optometrists is a routine part of work. This role is essential to the delivery of the service and candidates will be expected to work closely with other departments within the Trust to provide high quality, holistic patient centred care. Due to the large volume of activity, there will be evening and weekend work regularly. Previous ophthalmic imaging/screening experience is essential.
