Hours: 2 hours a week – (Likely to be weekends during term time and weekdays during the school holidays). Dates & Times to be discussed with employer.
Rates of Pay: £13.50 per hour.

About the Job:
The role of personal assistant to support an 11-year-old boy with Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, low muscle tone, hypermobility syndrome and is non-verbal -he uses Makaton and has just started to use AAC software (communication device) to communicate. He is able to walk short distances but uses a wheelchair for anything more strenuous.
To support him access activities in the community to improve his independence, health and well-being. He enjoys a range of things, such as e.g., swimming which he does fortnightly, moving vehicles (especially tractors), animals, going out for food and the beach. The objective will be to locate different activities which the young man will enjoy and for him to gain confidence within himself. Experience of working in the care sector or previous experience of working with children would be an advantage.
Responsible to: The mother of the child who is in receipt of Direct Payments.
Main Tasks:
To accompany the young man to chosen activities.
To be pro-active and liaise with your employer regarding potential activities, all to be agreed with both.
To support the young man with personal care on occasion.
To be able to do some light meal preparation.
To ensure that due consideration is always given to Health & Safety.
Any other duties which may fall within the scope of this role, to be discussed and mutually agreed.
Person Specification:
Be punctual, reliable, and flexible.
To have previous experience of working in the care sector or with children would be desirable.
Establish a professional standard of care, which should be always maintained.
Be prepared to undertake any training that may be required to meet the needs of the role.
Undertake this role with due regard to physical, social, and recreational needs.
Respect and safeguard the goods and property of the employer.
Respect privacy and always uphold confidentiality.
Access to a car with appropriate business insurance cover and full clean driving licence is required. The employer will provide you with a child seat.
