Energise Your Career, Accelerate a Net-Zero Future #RenewablesJobs
The opportunity
As Onshore Wind Health & Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for promoting and managing the implementation of EDF Renewables UK & Ireland Zero Harm ambitions across the Onshore Wind end-to-end portfolio, from development to operations and maintenance.
A key focus for the role consists in applying the hierarchy of risk control measures to our onshore wind assets: in development phases through ‘safe by design’ principles, and during high risk activities such as construction, operations and maintenance; in addition to learning from events.
Working within a matrix organisation, a key aspect of the role is collaboration, in particular with H&S colleagues across the EDF Renewables portfolio including other business unit technologies and the Corporate HSE Team.
What you’ll be doing
You will be part of a team of H&S Specialists; the role will be expected to provide Health and Safety (H&S) support, input and advice to all teams throughout the product lifecycle, including concept, development, delivery, operations into decommissioning and deconstruction, with primary focus on supporting business H&S needs. There may be some crossover with Environmental and Quality systems.
A few times per month, you will be visiting onshore wind assets (wind farms, service centres, conception and development, etc.) across the UK and Ireland, promoting a Zero Harm H&S culture while establishing strong professional relationships with colleagues and contract partners out in the field-based businesses. You will be home based with flexibility across all UK & Ireland field and office locations, working flexibly to provide required services and be prepared and willing to respond to business needs and be able to assist in an emergency situation.
Responsibilities will include:
1. Being a role model setting the highest HSE standards and providing visible safety leadership, interacting with colleagues and other persons responsible for delivery.
2. Providing assistance in creating and maintaining an environment where safety is seen as a fundamental priority and individuals take ownership for their actions.
3. Deploying EDF Renewables UK & Ireland H&S policy commitments.
4. Supporting the development of robust and accredited H&S management systems and procedures.
5. Representing EDF Renewables UK & Ireland at internal and external H&S forums and events.
6. Maintaining the highest levels of H&S to comply with all statutory and legal requirements that are applicable in the UK & Ireland (Inc. safety by design and industry best practice guidelines).
7. Acting as a role model for H&S, setting high standards ensuring they are benchmarked as part of continual improvement.
8. Overseeing and assisting in the creation and deployment of all H&S procedures applicable to Onshore Wind.
9. Contributing to the risk management process for risks generated by the company's activities (risk evaluation and prevention plans).
What do you need to be great at this role?
* Experience of managing a health and safety function in developing projects and operational / multi-site environment.
* Be qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent.
* Engineering, construction and/or wind farm experience is desirable.
* Experience in high voltage equipment and switching experience is desirable.
* Chartered member of IOSH (or similar), or working towards CMIOSH status.
* GWO training / certificates desirable.
* Being able to work at heights is desirable.
Closing date for applications: 17th April 2025
Location: Home based with travel to sites and offices, mainly in the central England area (between Wales and Peterborough). Visits to other UK locations may be required on occasion.
