Department
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the group of Dr Lianne Willems in the Department of Chemistry at the University of York. This position is part of an ERC Starting Grant that supports the laboratory’s pioneering work on the study of glycans that are linked to congenital muscular dystrophies. The post is available for 7 months on a full-time basis. The post will suit a person with a PhD, or equivalent relevant experience, in chemical biology or synthetic chemistry with a specific interest in carbohydrate chemistry. Ability to offer experience with the evaluation of small molecules in mammalian cell culture would further strengthen your application, and experience with or interest in the development and characterisation of enzyme inhibitors and probes would also be advantageous.
The Department of Chemistry is one of the largest and most successful departments at York and we are renowned internationally for our research. As a department, we strive to provide a working environment that allows all staff and students to contribute fully, to flourish, and to excel. We are proud of our Athena SWAN Gold Award.
Role
To conduct research under the supervision of Dr Lianne Willems and to contribute to the production of research, specifically the synthesis of metabolic glycan labelling probes and their characterisation using appropriate biochemical and analytic techniques.
The position offers the opportunity to be involved in cutting-edge research in the field of glycobiology and to advance your knowledge and skills in a variety of chemical biology approaches.
