We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and motivated Radiographer to join our friendly and hardworking team in the Radiology department at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
The role involves working within the CT and general radiography modalities, providing high quality imaging and patient centred care for a range of complex imaging examinations. Providing imaging for our patients can be challenging but rewarding.
Good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team, or independently is required.
The successful candidate will be required to rotate through the imaging modalities delivering the highest possible patient care and imaging service.

Detailed knowledge and understanding of anatomy, general radiographic practices and methods of reducing radiation dose, as well as a working knowledge of ionising radiation legislation (IR (ME) R) is required.
Previous experience in CT would be extremely beneficial to this role and a post graduate qualification in a clinical speciality, or post graduate specialist short courses or relevant specialist experience would be desirable.
Successful candidates will also be expected to train in cannulation and undertake CT Colonography examinations.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team providing support in evenings and weekends within theCT service at the Freeman Hospital. The rota is currently a mixture of core hours, shifts finishing at 8pm during weekdays, and weekend duties. Weekends allocated will be approximately one in three.
Working knowledge of all relevant professional and NHS policies and procedures is essential, as is the need to have the IT skills necessary for Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
Opportunities are available for personal and professional development and the post holder may be encouraged to take on additional responsibilities such as, Radiation Protection Supervisor, manual handling facilitator, Health and Safety Representative, Society of Radiographers Representative or CPR trainer.

Whilst the post is based at the Freeman Hospital, rotation to the Royal Victoria Infirmary may be necessary in times of staff shortages.
You must be HCPC registered and hold a BSc (Hons) or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography.
We offer a wide range of services and within Freeman Radiology and have a number of General x-ray rooms, Ultrasound rooms, a Fluoroscopy room, multiple Cardiac catheter laboratories, Image Intensifiers for theatre imaging, Nuclear Medicine, 2 MRI units, 2 CT scanners including one with dual source dual energy capabilities, 2 Interventional Radiology rooms, and a further hybrid theatre suite for vascular procedures.
Job Purpose
• To be part of a team delivering a high quality efficient and effective radiographic service, to make an informed decision on the diagnostic images required and demonstrate a professional, caring and responsible approach to patients.
• There is a commitment to out of hour’s work and “on call” and extended working day duties within the imaging departments primarily based at either the Freeman or RVI site but with commitments to work within Radiology departments Trust wide
when required.
