Do you want to be part of a team working in brand new, purpose-built theatres providing planned surgery for patients across Hertfordshire and west Essex?
We are looking NOW for talented staff to form the core team that will be the beating heart of the Hertfordshire and West Essex Surgical Centre being built at St Albans City Hospital and set to open in Summer 2025.
More than 4,000 patients will be seen at the hub each year for non-complex orthopaedic, hip and knee surgery as well as ear, nose and throat procedures and spinal injections. Being separated from emergency services will reduce the risk of short-notice cancellations.
This is a fabulous opportunity to play a key role in a flagship collaborative project between the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Herts and West Essex Integrated Care Board.
The Surgical Centre will focus on Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) standards and will be a highly efficient facility, achieving 85% theatre utilisation and operating sessions over an extended 10-hour day, four days a week, with shorter, 8-hour operating sessions taking place on Friday and Saturdays.
This position is available for an immediate start.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve providing a clinical pharmacy service to a new surgical centre, based at St Albans City Hospital. Being one of thirty-seven new elective hubs in the country, the project will result in two additional theatres being built and surgeries will be performed on patients from three different Trusts within the Integrated Care System.
There will also be a dispensary element to the role, where the successful candidate will assist in the provision of safe, efficient and comprehensive pharmaceutical services to the patients of West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
They will also provide clinical pharmacy services to the wards and out-patients. There will also be participation in audit and practice research, and assistance in providing clinical/operational training and supervision to departmental and other staff.
