The Scottish Government Agriculture and Rural Economy Directorate are looking for a Potato Crop Certification Officer to join their Growing Crop team. SASA’s Potato plots are world-renowned and are primarily used to train approximately 100 Plant Health inspectors in pathological and physiological disorders of potato prior to commencing official inspections.
As a Certification Officer, your primary role will be to assist the Certification Manager in the provision of Potato Inspectors training plots and a variety of other field work. This will include, after a period of training, trueness to type assessments on material submitted by Industry and from SASA’s Microplant Unit. In addition, there will be potato store management and other store related duties including the ordering of consumables to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the branch.
Responsibilities
1. Support the Certification Manager and the wider team in maintaining the potato collection at SASA’s Gogarbank Farm.
2. Select material for planting; assist with harvesting and the assessment of plants during the growing season in both the glasshouse and field.
3. Responsible for general housekeeping of the stores and ordering of consumables used for the storage of plant material and provision of the plots.
4. Assist with training courses run by the team at SASA.
