An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Staff Nurse to join the dedicated and highly-skilled Team of Nursing and Medical Staff on Ward 3E Gynaecology.
Ward 3E is a 19 bedded Gynaecology Surgery Ward, accepting emergency referrals from our Emergency Department and GP Practices, as well as in-patients.
Our Gynaecology services provided include:
* Rapid Access - Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit
* Rapid Access Clinics for post-menopausal bleeding / hysteroscopy
* Colposcopy
* Cancer Surgery as part of the Cheshire & Merseyside Cancer Network
* Urology
* Minor Procedures - ODP
* Major & Day Case Surgery
An Enhanced DBS Certificate is required for this post.

Main duties of the job
The post holder is required to develop their knowledge and skills to plan and provide care for gynaecology patients both pre and post operatively.
Responsible for the assessment/planning/implementation and evaluation of patient care and adapting to changing needs. To take charge of the ward area in the absence of senior staff when required (once deemed competent to do so).
With support from the Matron, Ward Manager and Ward Sister the post holder will improve the services within the directorate whilst also providing and promoting expert practice in the clinical setting.
Job responsibilities
Practice at all times within the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Practice.
To attend trust statutory and mandatory training as required and any other training courses relevant to the post.
To present an appearance which gives a positive image of the trust and a manner which is appropriate and inspires confidence.
To ensure fulfilment of the requirements for the professional updating and maintain a personal record for future registration purposes.
Ensure individualised care plans are in place for all patients in the designated clinical area.
To ensure privacy and dignity of patients is paramount and not compromised.
Ensure effective communication processes are in place to meet the needs of patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Responsible for setting an agreed standard of patient care and ensuring its delivery, monitored by audit.
Provide clinical and professional advice to other members of the nursing team.
Report untoward incidents/accidents in accordance with the trust policy, ensuring a datix is completed.
Set a high standard of record keeping regarding patient care which is comprehensive, concise and valid.
Act as a mentor/preceptor to staff.
Promote an effective learning environment.
Clinically support staff in achieving their work based competencies.
Continue to develop own knowledge through training, education and professional updates.
Promote health, safety and security of self and others and implement best practice.
Act as an effective role model and demonstrate leadership skills.
Represent gynaecology in internal and external meetings/committees as required.
Create a climate conducive to the practice of a high standard of care, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of staff, patients and visitors to the department.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* 1st Level RGN, with current NMC Registration
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Teaching & Assessing/Mentorship qualification achieved, ongoing or willing to work towards.
Knowledge & Experience
* Knowledge of clinical skills required to undertake the role
* Knowledge of current professional & clinical issues
* Knowledge of Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults procedures
* Awareness, understanding and application of research and development current evidence based practices
* Awareness of how audit may influence quality of patient care
* Substantial experience in an acute care setting
* Gynaecology Nursing experience
Skills
* Evidence of quality improvement in patient care
* Effective organisational skills
* Ability to set and establish priorities
