An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our expanding patient centred and supportive Gastroenterology department at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
Our team provides specialist Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy services across our 3 hospital sites (Dewsbury District Hospital, Pinderfields General Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary).
Our acute inpatient work is provided on the Pinderfields site with outpatient services and endoscopy provided across all 3 sites.
Our consultants rotate to provide inpatient care on the specialist inpatient gastroenterology ward. We have a Gastroenterologist of the Week model providing expert advice to the rest of the hospital and helping to deliver urgent endoscopy services. Our gastroenterology team provide a 24/7 GI Bleed on call service.
We provide specialist clinics for several conditions including Hepatology, IBD, Cancer and Specialist Nutrition.
We currently provide a range of endoscopy services including ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography).

Main duties of the job
The main duties of the post include the following:
1. Endoscopy lists including ERCP, and or EUS
2. Key member of local and regional Upper GI (UGI) / Hepatobiliary (HPB) cancer MDT teams
3. Outpatient clinics including HPB, UGI 2-week wait, and General Gastroenterology
4. Provision of inpatient care to the dedicated specialty bed base on a 1:8 rota
5. Contribution to the GI bleed out of hours on-call rota on a 1:8 basis
6. Leadership roles within sub-specialty areas
7. Supervision of junior doctors and nursing staff
8. Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hours on-call schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working
9. Support from the professional and experienced secretarial team
10. Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10 PA timetable
11. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service

This post is offered on a full-time (10 PA) basis, although less than full-time applications will be considered.
Duties will be based across the trust and all our medical staff can be involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites.

The successful applicant will also be part of the team delivering inpatient care for General Internal Medicine (GIM). The GIM cover will be on a consultant of the week model of care on a one-in-eight rota, providing a daily consultant ward round (4-hour duration). Within the job plan (below) for this position are up to 1.5 PA of direct clinical care (DCC) for this activity.
The GIM PAs will be reviewed after two years in the post, with the likelihood (subject to individual wishes and confirmation with your line manager) of this activity being passed on as new consultants are appointed to the organization. This will allow the incumbents to return that time to their department and allow them to further develop their main specialty interests. The senior management team make a commitment that no longer than 3 years will be needed to be provided in GIM (Divisional Clinical Director of Medicine (Dr Nigel Artis), Director of Operations (Wendy Quinn), and Deputy Director of Operations (Patricia Bannar-Martin). However, for those that wish to continue in this role it could be continued in the longer term.
