The Reinsurance Controllership role is a Global role supported by a team with members located in US, Ireland, and India. The role reports to Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) and is responsible for Controllership and Segment Management reporting of the Reinsurance Segment. The team provides analytics and management information to Regions, actuarial, corporate, and Reinsurance Leadership team.
What will your essential responsibilities include?
1. Key point of contact for managing the financial reporting process of Reinsurance Segment and all associated activities for the corporate consolidation. Ensure compliance with corporate and segment timetables and quality and accuracy of output.
2. Compilation of a Segment set of financial statements for both balance sheet and income statement to be used to provide understanding of the changes quarter to quarter that are supported by commentaries received from regions.
3. Ensure compliance with the AXA group accounting standards for the segment reporting.
4. Reserve Reconciliations and co-ordinate with Actuarial and Regional Finance teams to document the bridging items between Actuarial and Finance, supplemented with a quarterly memorandum.
5. Strive for improvements in processes, data quality, and information provision. Specific targets to include enrichment of data and improved processes across segment with the view to incorporating efficiencies and Standardization across the regions and Segment. Collaborate with the Regional Segment Controller to ensure consistencies across Reinsurance Segment overall.
6. Managing the expectations and key deliverables of the Corporate team and managing the AXA Group financial schedules requirements for Reinsurance Segment and ensuring alignment is understood across regions for timely delivery.
7. Balance Sheet Analytics and supporting the Internal/External/IFC audit review.
8. Perform centralized controls to assure the accuracy and reliability of the Financial information and to support the audit requirements with both external and internal parties.
9. Provide leadership to the Segment Finance team and ensure to provide opportunities to staff where appropriate and to consider their development.
10. Support the business planning and strategic process as needed, specifically leading the technical and operating expenses within the ledger and reporting tools, led by the Head of Financial Planning & Analytics.
11. Lead the Finance Functional Team meetings for development of data enrichment and architecture. Represent Finance in the Functional IT Steering Group and work closely with the CFO/CAO on all Finance IT strategic initiatives.
12. Managing IFRS architecture flow, and reporting financials on IFRS basis. Testing the Income Statement and Balance Sheet packs. Leading all Workstream Calls on Regular basis and create documentation for updates to regions.
13. Reinsurance segment lead for the IFRS 17. Manage movement from IFRS 4 to IFRS 17 ledgers and ensure appropriate understanding of adjustments made due to IFRS 17 requirements such as discounting, acquisition costs, underwriting expenses, and classifications. Provide analysis and explanation of financial movements. Support regional statutory teams, reporting under IFRS, with regard to understanding the movements in IFRS 17, if and when required. The key is to be the subject matter expert on financial impacts of IFRS 17 within segment. This will require collaborating with actuarial and other experts.
14. Build and develop the accounting team to deliver department goals in an efficient and effective manner.
15. Lead and manage specialized accounting projects and cross-functional efforts.
16. Support the CAO with managing the relationships with external auditors and other parties supporting financial accounting and reporting.
17. Suggest, project manage, and report on progress of other ad hoc duties and projects as required to further our Reinsurance department strategy and goals. Ensure accountability in various workstreams.
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
1. Qualified accountant with extensive post-qualification relevant experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry.
2. Bachelors with extensive post-qualification experience demonstrating progressive positions held in the insurance and reinsurance industry.
3. Must have knowledge and experience with GAAP/IFRS accounting and reporting. Emphasis is on IFRS 17 experience.
4. Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics.
5. Working knowledge and experience with Oracle, and Hyperion Financials and general ability to understand financial reporting databases and tools.
6. Must possess robust analytical and report writing skills as well as solid organizational and communication skills.
7. Demonstrable previous experience working in a global organization with demands across multiple time zones.
8. Results Oriented: A keen ability to execute and deliver results. Approach tasks proactively and anticipate needs. Deliver quality.
