Global Corporate Solutions
Reporting to the Managing Director and World Bank Chief Administrative Officer, Global Corporate Solutions (GCS) brings together the functions of Corporate Security, Corporate Real Estate, and Corporate Services.
About the Unit
The Corporate Services (GCSCS) unit within GCS provides services to the WBG in the areas of Travel and Visa services; Translation and Interpretation; Printing & Multimedia Services; Interactive Media Services; Graphic Design; Editorial Production & Publications; Food and Conference Services; Mail & Shipping; Staff Services, including Fitness Center, Childcare, and Commuter Services; and the Art Program.
The GCS Art Program is responsible for managing the World Bank's permanent collection of over 6,000 artworks. The Art Program curates exhibitions (physical and virtual) highlighting various aspects of development and the Bank's mission. The Art Program rotates artworks in public spaces around the Bank's headquarters buildings and works closely with the Corporate Real Estate team on headquarters and Country Office building and office renovation projects.
The Deputy Curator reports to the Art Curator and works under her direction. Other duties and accountabilities are outlined below.
Duties and Accountabilities
Art Research and Program Support
1. Conducts art historical research on exhibition topics and artworks in the Bank's collection.
2. Produces short and long-form labels for artworks on display.
3. Scouts for art from emerging and other artists from Bank member countries for potential acquisition.
4. Performs upkeep of the Art Program's collection database.
5. Networks with World Bank operational units, Senior Management, and other stakeholders to progress Art Program initiatives.
6. Coordinates with Real Estate team on art-related aspects of headquarters and Country Office projects.
7. Supports delivery of the World Bank Children's Art Prize Contest.
8. Supports the Curator in developing and updating Art Program procedures and policies.
9. Supports the Curator in deaccessioning artworks from the Bank's collection.
Organization of Exhibitions
1. Organizes exhibitions, which may be physical or virtual.
2. Handles exhibition logistical arrangements.
3. Prepares exhibition texts and publications.
4. Liaises with artists involved in the exhibition.
5. May involve internal fundraising in support of the exhibition.
Communications, Outreach, and Networking
1. Creates written and visual content for the Art Program's website and other platforms.
2. Works with Communications Officers on Art Program outreach.
3. Prepares various communications materials.
Educational Programs
1. Conducts guided tours of the collection and exhibitions.
2. Works with Art Program team members to develop educational programs.
Selection Criteria
1. Master's degree in a relevant discipline and strong research skills in art history, with a minimum of 8 years of experience.
2. Demonstrated skills in leading and managing large, complex projects.
3. Experience in budget accountability and cost tracking.
4. Possess cross cultural management experience.
5. Superior written and verbal communication skills in English.
