The recruitment group is working with an independent school where Autism is their first language. This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody to join a fantastic team in a superb location.
Our client is looking for a Handy man to work across three different sites doing general maintenance duties.
Main duties and responsibilities of an Handyman:
1. To ensure a clean, tidy and well-maintained school environment (buildings and grounds)
2. To be proactive in identifying maintenance requirements across the sites by carrying out regular site maintenance/safety inspections.
3. To be responsible for monitoring and reporting health & safety concerns, taking immediate action to mitigate any risks relating to these concerns where possible
4. With sign off from Senior Premises Officer and/or the Head of Compliance, order materials and equipment required
5. Manage the maintenance, replacement and repair of our buildings and grounds, including electrics, plumbing, heating, glass wear, door removals, painting and decorating, etc
6. Use a range of mechanised and non-mechanised tools as necessary to complete the tasks on the ‘jobs list’
7. Attending training as necessary, working in a safe manner and maintaining accurate computerised records.
8. To maintain the buildings and amenities, including the collection and management of site waste including any external bins, on a regular basis
9. Report and repair (in agreement with landlords, where necessary) any non-structural hazards i.e., broken windows, equipment, or any structural faults that are seen which cause concern or may be in an unsafe condition.
10. Consult and liaise with service companies and contractors when required
11. To respond to emergencies such as floods, illegal entries and fire
12. To communicate, in a timely fashion, to any relevant managers/Heads of base, any notice of intended works to be carried out, in order that impact on students can be minimised
13. To fulfill all duties and responsibilities with a level of compassion, understanding and acknowledgement of the needs of the learners of Woodside
Experience/knowledge requirements for an Handyman:
14. Craft skills, e.g. basic plumbing, basic electrical tasks, decorating or previous experience in a caretaking role including repairs and maintenance.
15. Experience of mechanised and non-mechanised DIY tools (eg; drills, screwdrivers)
16. Experience of painting/decorating
17. Clean driving license & business insurance
18. Motivation and initiative
19. Self-starter and able to work without supervision
20. Flexible approach to working hours, as some activities may need to be conducted outside of school operating hours
21. An ability to undertake risk assessments in relation to premises function
22. Ability to highlight unsafe practices and risks to the Senior Leadership Team
23. Knowledge of moving and handling procedures and be physically able to carry out the physical tasks of the role (e.g. lifting, moving, gritting, clearing snow etc)
