Job Summary
The post holder supports the Ward Manager in the general management of the clinical environment, ensuring that a quality service is provided. They will be responsible for ensuring that staff within the team are supported and developed within their role. They will oversee a team of Nurses and Healthcare Assistants, monitoring their professional development through carrying out KSF IPR's.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Support the flow of patients through the department, participate in providing nursing care throughout the department.
2. Be a role model both clinically and professionally.
3. Meet clinical objectives as set up with the ward manager and the wider clinical teams.
4. Participate in regular staff and directorate meetings.
5. Be a leader, maintain good morale, with open communication between all disciplines of staff.
6. Act as an effective role model and resource/advisor to colleagues, in the delivery of nursing care.
7. Able to interpret situations and make an informed decision on the best way to proceed within the scope of practice.

Job Responsibilities
1. Meet clinical objectives as set up with the ward manager and the wider clinical teams.

5. Provide clinical nursing expertise and supervision of all grades of staff within the department, to ensure a high standard of care is delivered.
6. Advise patients, relatives and friends as appropriate on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
Person Specification
Education, Training & Qualifications
* Educated to Registered Nurse level 1
* Current NMC registration
* Completed NMC aligned Practice Assessor and Supervisor Development course
* Evidence of further study to Postgraduate level, or equivalent level of education, training, experience or knowledge
* Accredited Ophthalmic Course
Knowledge & Experience
* Substantial post-registration experience in OPD environment
* Experience of managing/leading a team and coordinating workload
* Experience of conducting appraisals, managing staff performance and mentoring others
Skills
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team
* Excellent interpersonal & organisational skills
* IT Skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft Teams
* Leadership skills/Negotiator/Motivator
