The Landing Gear Market specializes in the design, qualification, manufacture and repair and overhaul of landing gears and flight critical components to a customer base that extends from the OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to the Operators in both the commercial and military markets.

The Strategic Commodity Manager primary purpose is to ensure effective and efficient flow of goods and sub-contract services into Héroux Devtek.
The Strategic Commodity Manager will also work with a team of buyers in his / her duties to lead the designated Commodity functions, to develop and execute Commodity Strategies that drive long-term improvements in Quality, Cost and Delivery performance. Establish and maintain good customer-supplier relationships, and where appropriate introduce Long Term Supplier Agreements.

The ideal candidate will excel in both verbal and written communication, with a proven ability to persuade and inform colleagues effectively. They must be an excellent delegator, able to utilize the skills and knowledge of the team to achieve goals.
Resilience is key, as the role requires coping with unplanned demands and adeptly prioritizing workloads in line with changing demands. Strong team-working skills are essential, with the ability to motivate others to contribute and complete tasks on time. Attention to detail and a methodical approach are necessary to ensure compliance with relevant standards. The candidate should adhere to company policies and procedures, knowing when to escalate issues appropriately.
Main responsibilities:
• Develop and execute Commodity Strategy(s), implementing strategic sourcing activities to procure and manage commodities, minimizing cost and risk while maximizing quality.
• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms & conditions with suppliers, and manage the storage and transportation of commodities to ensure optimal logistics.
• Monitor market trends and developments to inform procurement decisions, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies & procedures.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders purchasing, finance, operations) and external stakeholders suppliers) to facilitate effective procurement processes.
• Oversee the implementation and maintenance of Long Term Agreements (LTAs) to secure long-term profitability, manage the Bill of Materials (BOM) costs, and ensure accurate ERP (INFOR LN) data management.
• Collaborate with the Quality department to ensure vendors have appropriate quality systems, conduct regular audits, and prioritize audits based on spend and risk, while minimizing the number of vendors to maintain direct control of the supply chain.
Other Responsibilities:
• Team Development: Develop and maintain a flexible, well-trained team capable of responding to fluctuating workload demands. This includes conducting staff appraisals, facilitating staff development, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Data/Information Management: Manage and ensure the accuracy of the ERP system (INFOR LN), including all information related to commodities, suppliers, lead-times, pricing, stock records, delivery dates, and batch quantities.
• Supplier Relationships: Lead, direct, and manage all supplier relationships, effectively utilizing team members and other functions as needed.
• Cost Management: Ensure commercial negotiations align with Commodity Strategies and conduct long-term cost planning based on these strategies and external market trends.
• Cost Control: Develop and deploy an integrated approach to purchasing-related cost reduction activities, balancing unit cost and total cost priorities. Implement a robust cost management system in collaboration with the Finance Team.
• Quality and Delivery: Accountable for the quality and delivery performance of assigned commodities, working closely with the Quality departments and the Supplier Development Team.
Qualifications:
• A degree and full CIPS qualification (or equivalent) with a solid background in Materials Management, including MRP and ERP systems.
• At least four years of experience in supply chain or commodity management.
• Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities, with the ability to communicate effectively with vendors and suppliers.
• Strong commercial awareness and cost management skills, with solid knowledge of financial markets influencing commodity prices.
• Thorough understanding of supply chain management and procurement processes.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of delivering results in both favorable and unfavorable conditions.
• Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
• Experience in strategic planning and industry analysis at a senior level, along with extensive experience in Supplier Relationship Management.
• Proficient in ERP systems' supply chain functionality, as well as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, and other relevant software.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with a drive to develop new skills and ambition to progress within the company, along with a full driving license
