Management Responsibilities: Exercise effective managerial and clinical leadership of the theatre staff in conjunction with the theatre manager. Take responsibility for effective daily management of the elective operation lists, ensuring appropriate staff skill mix, in and out of hours. Deputise for the theatre manager ensuring effective and efficient running of the department if required Ensure that duty rotas are prepared reflecting skill mix against patient workload. Maintain accurate records Manage annual leave, special leave and sickness/absence of staff within the department as per policies. Undertake individual performance review and the identification and implementation of personal development plans for all staff. Take responsibility for actions to secure the most appropriate use of resources. In the absence of the Theatre manager, sanction agency and overtime as and when required using departmental guidelines Deal personally with patients, families, carers and staff, as appropriate in order to aid resolution of complaints. Organise /chair regular Team meetings and other meetings as and when required. Facilitate open and effective communication within the multi-disciplinary team. Participate in the selection and appointment of staff within Team In conjunction with the Theatre Manager, monitor the registration status of all professionally registered staff within Theatres. Be responsible where appropriate for reporting all accidents/untoward incidents and ensuring relevant documentation is completed. Undertake follow up investigations developing actions plans to prevent further incidents occurring.15. Actively promote and monitor the safety, wellbeing and interests of the patients, staff and all visitors to the clinical area. Be conversant with and assist in the departments contribution to local, corporate, regional and national performance objectives Take responsibility for assisting the theatre manager in ensuring that national guidelines relating to decontamination and traceability of medical devices are adhered to. Education and Training: Take responsibility for pursuing his/her own professional development in accordance with an agreed personal development plan. Maintain accurate, legible and timely written/verbal/electronic (TIMS) reports, which inform other members of the multi-disciplinary team and patients and their carers. Ensure that changes in theatre, order of lists etc are amended on TIMS. Carry out clinical duties in accordance with The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust local and national standards and policies. Advise patients/clients of the promotion of health and prevention of illness. Take responsibility for the correct use and operation of medical equipment, in accordance with relevant Trust and national guidance. Monitor and develop standards of care within the Trusts Governance Framework and agreed priorities, contributing to and leading audit where appropriate. Assist in the orientation of Junior Doctors in regard to specialities within team.
