Senior Corporate Communications Manager
Location: Based at Police Headquarters, Northallerton, with opportunities for hybrid working
Salary: PO 9-12 £48,894 - £52,491
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week, Monday – Thursday 08:30-17:00 and Friday 08:30-16:30

It is critical to ensure high levels of public confidence and that victims of crime receive the service that they are entitled to. To meet the challenges of today and tomorrow we are seeking highly motivated and resourceful communicators to join our in-house Corporate Communications Team. The Senior Corporate Communications Manager role is new within the team and will report directly to the Head of Corporate Communications.
This role requires an experienced communicator who can work confidently and effectively across a number of corporate communications disciplines: internal; external; and digital. You will work strategically, adapting our communications approaches sensitively in response to emerging issues, and using this knowledge to drive effective communications. You’ll be able to work flexibly across workloads and issues; supporting the team on proactive communications to build the trust and confidence of our communities, as well as responding quickly to lead communications on major incidents and working with partners to warn and inform the public.
Key responsibilities:
* Lead and take individual responsibility to plan, develop and implement operational communications practice and procedures, and contribute to the development of strategy for the Corporate Communications function.
* Lead and ensure effective deployment of the Corporate Communications function in support of corporate decision-making and activity.
* As a subject matter expert, to provide strategic and tactical communications advice and guidance to executive, senior officers / managers in relation to Gold Groups, internal change projects, corporate reputation risks, risks to public confidence, major and critical incidents (including Civil Contingency risk) and policing operations.
* Take the role of Strategic Communications Advisor (in the absence of the Head of Corporate Communications) or Tactical Communications Advisor and lead for all relevant declared major incidents by a Strategic Co-ordination Group (SCG) ensuring the appropriate deployment of resources whilst participating as tactical advisor to TCG multi-agency members.
* Lead the delivery of operational and organisational communication priorities ensuring that performance is managed so that work is delivered in a timely, appropriate and value for money manner.
* Ensure that liaison takes place and relationships are maintained with other directorates, senior managers and stakeholders so as to understand their needs of the team, and to ensure they are actively engaged in the development of overarching function objectives, purposes and priorities and fully informed about the team’s achievements.
* Identify, evaluate and implement emerging best practice, theory, initiatives, media legislation and use of appropriate technology within and outside the police service.
* To ensure the provision of effective advice, training and guidance to enhance the communications capability and capacity of the workforce.
* Manage and develop appropriate policies and guidance to ensure NYP complies with relevant legal requirements and national best practice.
* Line management of the [Design team] and Corporate Communications Officers.
Requirements:
To be successful you will:
* Be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline with demonstrable experience in the development and delivery of strategic and tactical communications activity, in two or more corporate communications disciplines, for a large organisation.
* Have demonstrable experience of delivering crisis communications and reputation management.
* Have a solid understanding and experience in the use of a range of traditional media and social and digital media platforms.
* Demonstrable experience of leading and managing an outcome-focused team and related performance management at individual and team level.
* Have experience of successfully developing and implementing communication and public relations strategies and delivery plans to effectively manage complex, high profile, fast moving and politically sensitive incidents or operations.
* Have experience of driving and delivering change.
* Have experience of developing and maintaining relationships with senior key communication stakeholders across the organisation, governance bodies, local government, suppliers and key media.
