Protection and Control Manager/Lead

Develop and deliver substation Protection & Control engineering solutions for transmission networks (132kV and above), providing necessary basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs. Lead the Protection & Control design within a multi-skilled team, providing technical support, advice, and input throughout the lifecycle of projects.
Job responsibilities:
1. Leading and managing the engineering, design and implementation of protection and control systems, power systems and substations.
2. Manage and oversee multiple projects from concept through to completion.
3. Provide engineering expertise in the field of substation Protection & Control for transmission networks (132kV and above).
4. Translate customer requirements/specifications into conceptual design documents, such as:
* Protection & Control Key Line Diagrams
* Protection & Control Functional Design Specifications
1. Select suitable protection equipment to meet customer requirements.
2. Develop detailed designs for Protection & Control Cabinets, including:
* Cabinet Circuit Diagrams / Wiring Diagrams
* Cabinet General Arrangement
* Cabinet Bill of Materials
* I/O Schedules
3. Develop Protection & Control IED configuration files and corresponding test procedures.
4. Continuously monitor design progress and periodically report to the Project Lead Engineer or Project Manager.
5. Coordinate and mentor junior engineers within the project team.
6. Provide technical support during factory testing and commissioning activities.
7. Support the site Installation/Commissioning team by addressing technical queries as needed.
Experience:
1. Previous experience leading, mentoring and developing a team of protection and control engineers.
2. At least 10 years of proven experience in Protection & Control design for substations from 33kV and above.
3. Proven experience in the design of transmission network protection, control, and supervision schemes.
4. Proven experience in the configuration of IEDs from multiple vendors. Proficient user of relevant IED configuration software packages.
5. Preference given to candidates with experience in National Grid Electricity Transmission design processes and relevant project experience.
6. Experience in reading technical specifications.
7. Project coordination skills and the ability to operate well within a team.
8. Proactive approach to project delivery and problem-solving.
9. Fluent in both spoken and written English with good communication skills.
