Overview
The Material Handler/Picker works daily to gather all ingredients needed by the production team while adhering to safety and quality policies. Work is varied and is done under general supervision. Duties require training and initiative to acquire more complex skills and ability to work independently.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
2. 2+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment; food and beverage manufacturing experience preferred
3. 2+ years’ forklift, material handling experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to follow work instructions, as well as Safety, Quality, and Company policies
2. Ability to read, write, and speak English
3. Ability to operate basic warehouse machinery, forklift, wave, palletizer, pallet jack
4. Ability to accurately identify ingredients and needed weight from kit sheets
5. Ability to use a computer for data entry of production data
6. Ability to visually and physically sort, count, pack, and palletize raw materials and finished goods
7. Ability to work around and with hand-held, manual, and moving equipment i.e., conveyors, case packing, pallet jacks, and other machinery
8. Ability to use a tape gun, date coder, box cutter, and other small tools
9. Ability to recognize number sequences, lot numbers, date codes, and other data visually and accurately
10. Ability to visually detect, identify, and effectively communicate product deviations to lead or manager
11. Ability to stand on concrete floors and perform repetitive motions for extended periods of time
12. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 lbs on occasion
13. Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment in accordance with Quality and Safety policies
14. Ability to work independently with general supervision as well as work in a diverse, fast-paced, cross-functional team environment
15. Ability to be flexible and take on assignments as required
16. Ability to interact well with other staff members and in alignment with the company’s overall goals
17. Ability to have a positive, can-do attitude, strong work ethic, and be reliable and punctual
18. Ability to work overtime including weekends as required
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position works in a food manufacturing environment and requires the ability to adhere to all GMP, Food Safety, workplace safety and security policies including wearing required personal protective equipment, as well hair net, beard net, etc. as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position requires the ability to perform repetitive motions with hands and fingers, walk, stand on concrete floors, regularly lift to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. Must be able to be forklift certified. Must be able to work in a freezer environment on occasion.
Responsibilities
1. Utilize Warehouse Management System (e.g. Fishbowl) to pick, move, and transfer materials to/from production.
2. Ensure material license plates (i.e.-labels) do have accurate information that matches physical material (i.e.- expiration, lot number, location).
3. Perform system transactions in a timely way. System issues with transactions must be reported immediately.
4. Follow FIFO at all times. Report issues that will impact accuracy of inventory.
5. Move materials using forklift equipment following safe handling procedures.
6. Accurately pick raw ingredients needed for kitting and identify ingredient shortages.
7. Supply the production team with labels, boxes, film and paper needed for daily production.
8. Identify expired ingredients and inform supervisor.
9. Maintain an organized raw ingredient, film and box warehouse.
10. Return unused raw ingredients and materials to proper location.
11. Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times.
12. Complete housekeeping and sanitation duties.
13. Accurately complete daily production data collection forms and perform data entry.
14. Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset to improve procedures and processes.
15. Ability to maintain company confidential data.
16. Other duties as assigned.
