Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Airedale Children's Therapy Team. We are looking for a motivated, flexible, and skilled Assistant Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team providing assessment, interventions and support to children, young people and their families needing one or more therapy packages. This is a fixed term contract to cover an employment break, but there may be opportunity for extension or a permanent role in the future.
A full induction programme with opportunities for ongoing training and career development is offered. You will work alongside Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, AHP Support Workers, and other health professionals. The postholder will work within a multidisciplinary team as well as independently.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist in the overall implementation and evaluation of care as part of the multi-professional team. They will assist in the delivery of occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and autism assessment pathways. The jobholder will deliver clinical care under indirect supervision and guidance from a registered practitioner undertaking delegated tasks within competency boundaries.
The post holder will undertake specific skilled Assistant Practitioner work to aid the assessment, planning, and ongoing management of patients. This will mainly include, but is not limited to, developing therapy and MDT health care plans.
The jobholder will contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care. The jobholder will have the knowledge to interpret information and be skilled in taking appropriate action(s) to achieve the planned outcome. The post holder is expected to work within a wide variety of clinical and community environments.
The job holder will actively support the assessment and supervision of trainee or new assistant practitioners, students, and clinical support workers. This will include leading and coordinating a team of clinical support workers.
The jobholder will be expected to practice in accordance with Hospitals ANHSFT policies, guidelines, standards and statutory requirements and operate within defined competency boundaries.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Diploma Higher Education (level 5), Higher National Diploma (level 5) or Foundation Degree in related area
* Commitment to undergo training as required
* Qualifications related to working with Children, young people, and families
Experience
* Experience of working within a healthcare setting delivering clinical care
* Experience of working with children, young people and families as part of a therapy service
* Experience of working as senior therapy assistant or assistant practitioner
Knowledge
* Insight into role of the assistant practitioner
* Computer literate and experience of SystmOne
* Understanding of range of assessment and intervention pathways
* Knowledge of SEND and responsibilities of health providers
* Knowledge of roles of different therapy professions
* Knowledge of specific SALT, OT and Physiotherapy interventions
* Knowledge of Autism diagnosis
* Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology
Skills
* Able to work independently
* Able to recognise boundaries and seek supervision
* Able to accept delegation and work without direct supervision
* Able to engage with children and adults
* Able to manage own caseload
