Job summary The Integrated Decontamination Team is responsible for ensuring the provision of appropriately decontaminated and quality assured surgical, endoscopic, and other sterile instruments to the Trust's Theatre complexes, endoscope suites, outpatient's departments, and other user locations. The smooth functioning of the team underpins in excess £60m of activity and income for the Trust and is an absolutely essential element in the overall delivery of the Trust's clinical services. To receive, return and distribute Sterile and contaminated re-usable surgical instruments to and from clinical departments throughout the Trust ensuring quality checking and both electronic and manual tracking is carried out at the required stages As part of an Integrated Decontamination. Team the Integrated Decontamination Team Assistant may be required (with suitable notice) to work shifts at either of the sub teams for the Receipt and Distribution units. Main duties of the job To receive, return and distribute Sterile and contaminated re-usable surgical instruments to and from clinical departments throughout the Trust. To carry out robust quality checking of all items after delivery from external supplier and prior to release into Trust Sterile Storerooms. Immediately report any non-conformance, including but not limited to torn or damaged sterile instrument packs. Carry out both electronic or manual tracking and record keeping as required to ensure detailed traceability. Carry out efficient stock rotation to minimise time expiry waste of sterile trays and packs. To assist and advise in the availability of Surgical Instruments needed for all Trust end users including making available and delivery from Trust storage the surgical instruments required for operating/Procedure lists in advance and support surgical instrument repair/replacements as required. Actively participate in team meetings with the Head of the Integrated Decontamination Team, IDT Coordinators or Clinical staff as required. Promote patient and staff safety at all times and be familiar with and follow the Trust's Health & Safety policies, reporting any concerns to appropriate staff. Occasionally visit the external decontamination supplier to gain or refresh their decontamination knowledge by participating in Trust instrument decontamination processes. Ensure good housekeeping is observed at all times. Demonstrate procedures and activities to colleagues and new starters.
